ASWB Bachelors Practice Test: What ASWB's US$85 Online Test Includes and When to Use It
ASWB's official Bachelors practice test costs US$85, is sold only to registered candidates, and gives you one timed attempt with rationales. Here is what it includes, the rule for Associate candidates, what its score can't tell you, and where to place it in your plan.
Short answer
ASWB sells one official online practice test for the Bachelors exam for US$85, and only candidates already registered for the exam can buy it, using their Authorization to Test number. The guidebook describes a full-scale, 122-question test of actual retired exam questions, with rationales. You get one attempt on a four-hour timer and can review it for 30 days from launch or until ASWB receives your exam scores, whichever comes first. Associate registrants may buy it with the Bachelors passing score applied. ASWB notes its format doesn't exactly match the exam at the test center.
ASWB sells one official practice test, made of actual retired exam questions according to the guidebook, and you can't buy it until you have registered for the exam. That timing shapes everything else about it: by the time you can buy it, you have an Authorization to Test and a testing window, and the single attempt it gives you has to land at the right point in your plan.
The official ASWB Bachelors practice test at a glance
As described on ASWB's practice test pages and in the ASWB Examination Guidebook (08/2026), checked on October 27, 2026:
| Item | What ASWB says |
|---|---|
| Price | US$85 |
| Who can buy it | Only candidates registered for the exam, with the number from the Authorization to Test email |
| Categories | Associate, Bachelors, Masters and Clinical registrants. There is none for the Advanced Generalist exam |
| Length | A full-scale, 122-question test made of actual retired exam questions, according to the guidebook |
| Attempts | One complete attempt, on a four-hour timer |
| Pausing | The guidebook says you can check in and out of the test during your 30-day access |
| Review | Your score, then every question with its answer and rationale, either by content area or only the ones you missed |
| Access | 30 days from the moment you launch it, or until ASWB receives your exam scores, whichever comes first |
| Versions | One version per exam category. Buying it again gets you the same questions |
| Extra time | Candidates approved for extra time as a nonstandard testing arrangement can take it with standard time, time and a half, or double time |
ASWB's April 30, 2026 announcement listed an updated online practice test among the resources coming in May 2026, ahead of the August 3 launch of the current exam. The 122-question length in the guidebook matches the current exam's length.
ASWB Associate candidates buy the Bachelors test
There is one practice test for both categories that share a question bank. ASWB says candidates registered for the Associate exam may buy the Bachelors practice test, which shares the same content outline, but "the passing score for the Bachelors practice test will be applied." ASWB sets a passing standard for each exam category and doesn't publish a separate Associate number, so an Associate candidate should read the practice result as feedback on content, not as a verdict against their own cut score. The ASWB Associate exam guide covers the rest of the Associate route.
What an ASWB practice score can and can't tell you
What it can tell you is useful: how you do on real retired questions under a four-hour clock, which content areas cost you points, and how your pace feels. The guidebook says some test-takers find the practice test helps them get a sense of the pace they need.
What it can't tell you is whether you will pass. ASWB doesn't present the practice score as a prediction, and on the real exam the number of correct answers needed changes with the difficulty of your form, generally between 66 and 78 out of 110 scored questions. ASWB also says the practice test's format doesn't exactly match the exam as delivered at Pearson test centers. Read the score as one data point from one sitting.
Because the official test has only one version, a second full-length rehearsal has to come from somewhere else. An original 122-question timed mock exam, scored at the end, is planned for launch, and checkout isn't open yet.
Free practice to use before you spend US$85
- The guidebook's own sample questions. The Bachelors and Associate section has five sample questions with keys, rationales and the cognitive level of each, and the introduction to the outlines adds a worked example. They are free and they show how ASWB explains a key.
- The guidebook's study plan template. Rating each applied knowledge statement from 1 to 5 is free and tells you more about where to start than a practice score does.
- Passy's 20 free ASWB Bachelors practice questions. They are original, not ASWB items, with an explanation for every answer. Twenty questions show where to begin, not whether you're ready.
- Third-party quizzes. Check that they describe 122 questions and three content areas, and be wary of any claim of inside knowledge: the guidebook says ASWB has no relationship with any test preparation company.
What to avoid is anything presented as recalled exam questions. ASWB's exam content is confidential and protected by copyright, and the guidebook warns that unethical choices around exam content can jeopardize your ability to be licensed.
Timing your one attempt against your ASWB Bachelors test date
The guidebook's own suggestion is to build a personalized study plan first and follow up with the online practice test. In practice, three facts set the window:
- You can buy it only after you register, so it always comes after you have an Authorization to Test.
- The 30-day access clock starts when you press Launch, not when you buy.
- Access ends when ASWB receives your exam scores, which ASWB says Pearson sends within 24 hours after the exam, so plan to finish your review before test day.
A Passy rule of thumb: launch it after one full pass through all three content areas, at least two weeks before your test date. That leaves time to review every rationale and to work on the weakest area before the real exam. Launching earlier spends the attempt on material you haven't studied yet, and launching in the last few days leaves no time to act on what it shows.
In the final stretch after the practice test, Cram, listed for launch, plans your last few days of study before test day. How to study for the ASWB Bachelors exam has 4-, 8- and 12-week plans to fit the practice test into.
Reading the diagnostic page by question type
ASWB's help page explains the diagnostic screen. Clicking a content area's name shows every question in that area, right and wrong, and clicking the number under "Total Incorrect" shows only the questions you missed.
A useful way to sort each miss, in Passy's method, follows the guidebook's three cognitive levels:
- Didn't know the term or fact. A recall miss. Add the statement to your review list and turn it into a flashcard.
- Knew the concept but applied it wrong. An application miss. Practice short cases for that statement.
- Chose a good action at the wrong time or on the wrong measure. A reasoning miss. Reread the qualifier and what follows it. ASWB Bachelors FIRST, NEXT, BEST and MOST questions covers this kind.
- Ran short of time late in a section. A pacing miss. Practice timed blocks of 61 questions in two hours.
Count the misses in each group. Recall misses call for more review, and reasoning misses call for more case practice. When the diagnostic points at one area, content-area practice sets, planned for launch, let you work on just that area.
Setting up the ASWB practice test
- You log in at ASWB's practice test site, where your username is your email address, and "My Practice Test" appears on your dashboard. The 30 days start when you press the green Launch button.
- ASWB's help page recommends a screen resolution of at least 1280 x 960, and suggests zooming out if you can't scroll to accept the terms.
- If you see a warning while buying, ASWB says it means you have bought the test before. There is only one version.
- Take it in one sitting if you can, at the time of day your exam is booked, with no notes. That makes the pacing data more useful, even though the software lets you check in and out.
How hard the ASWB Bachelors exam is has the 2025 pass rates and the question mix, which help put a practice score in context.
