How the plan sets your priorities
Rate how each test went on your last attempt. If your score report shows results by test, use them; the planner doesn't need exact scores. So the planner asks you instead: the tests you mark as hard start your plan, mixed ones are strengthened, and confident ones get lighter review. Your answers are a self-assessment, not an official result.
Each test starts from its share of the exam in the official outline, multiplied by its priority: 3× to start, 2× to strengthen, 1.5× if you leave it blank, and 1× to maintain. A quarter of your time is mixed practice across all tests. This is Passy’s planning method; it doesn’t estimate a score or a chance of passing.
Retake rules for the CDL
No federal waiting period; your state sets retest waits, fees, and limits, and must give a different version of a failed test.
- 49 CFR 383.133(b)(4): a different test version on retake.
- The CLP must be held 14 days before the skills test (383.25(e)) and is valid up to one year without retaking the knowledge tests (383.25(c)).
- Failing Air Brakes leads to an air brake restriction; failing Combination Vehicles bars a Group A permit or license.
- 49 CFR 383.133 and 383.135 (eCFR)
