ANCC FNP-BC Scheduling: Rescheduling, Cancellations and an Expiring ATT
Choose the right action when your FNP-BC test date no longer works: change a Prometric appointment, ask ANCC for another testing window, or withdraw your application.
Short answer
Use Prometric to change your FNP-BC appointment within the ANCC testing window; changing the appointment does not extend that window. ANCC's handbook allows a one-time $100 reassignment to a new 120-day window, with the new window beginning less than six months after the original window expires. Withdrawing the certification application is a separate written request to ANCC, required before testing and before the window ends. Cancellation less than two days before the appointment forfeits the testing fee, and other vendor fees may apply.
How do you book after receiving ATT?
Book your FNP-BC examination through Prometric after ANCC issues your Authorization to Test, or ATT. ANCC's Certification Handbook gives you a 120-day testing window; the appointment must fit within that window, and moving the appointment does not extend it.
These rules were checked November 3, 2026. If you are arranging a 2027 test date, recheck the handbook and the terms shown for your appointment before booking or making a change. The current rules are a planning baseline, not a guarantee of future fees or available appointments.
Prometric's ANCC program page provides separate options to locate a center, schedule, reschedule or cancel, and confirm an appointment. Its scheduling instructions require the Eligibility ID supplied in your approval email.
- Find the Eligibility ID and the testing-window dates in your ANCC approval information.
- Use the ANCC program page on Prometric to find a suitable location and appointment.
- Check the selected date against the end of your eligibility window.
- Save the appointment confirmation and the applicable change terms.
If you have not received ATT, start with the FNP-BC application timeline. A preferred test date is a planning target until you have authorization and a confirmed appointment.
Is changing the appointment the same as extending ATT?
No. An appointment is a reservation with Prometric. The testing window is ANCC's authorization to take the examination during a particular period. Decide which one is causing the problem before you make a change.
| Your situation | Action to investigate | Organization to contact |
|---|---|---|
| Another date inside your current window would work | Reschedule the appointment and check any change fee | Prometric |
| You need to test beyond the current window | Ask about the one-time testing-window reassignment | ANCC |
| You no longer intend to proceed with this application | Request application withdrawal in writing; handle any booked appointment separately | ANCC for withdrawal; Prometric for the appointment |
For example, suppose your preferred 2027 date is later than the expiration printed on your ATT. Looking for another appointment does not resolve the eligibility problem. Ask ANCC about reassignment before treating that later date as a workable plan.
If the issue is a few more weeks of preparation, identify what those weeks would accomplish. Use the five-domain FNP-BC content outline guide to name the areas that need review. The 1,400 questions in full FNP-BC prep planned for launch are intended to support practice across those content areas.
When can you request a new 120-day window?
The ANCC handbook describes a one-time reassignment costing $100, checked November 3, 2026. It provides a new 120-day window that begins less than six months after the original window expires. If you do not test within the second window, you need a new application and must meet the eligibility requirements and pay the applicable fees.
The six-month condition governs when the new window begins. It is not permission to choose any appointment indefinitely after the original expiration. Ask ANCC to confirm the start and end dates that apply to your reassignment, and keep that confirmation with your scheduling records.
Before contacting ANCC, write down your current window, any booked appointment, the period when you could realistically test, and whether you have already used a reassignment. Ask how to coordinate the window request with any existing Prometric booking. Do not assume a request to one organization has completed the transaction with the other.
Use the free FNP-BC study plan to work backward from the revised target. For short review sessions between longer study blocks, full FNP-BC prep planned for launch includes 600 flashcards for review. Choose a realistic preparation schedule before spending money on more time.
When does cancellation forfeit the testing fee?
The current ANCC handbook says cancellation less than two days before the examination forfeits the testing fee. It also warns that other vendor fees may apply. Treat the last-minute forfeiture rule and any earlier change charge as separate questions.
ANCC's published wording is not fully consistent: its special-accommodations page describes cancellation or rescheduling through two days before as free, while the newer certification handbook allows for vendor charges. That is not enough evidence to promise a free change for an ordinary FNP-BC appointment.
Before confirming a change with Prometric, check:
- The cutoff that applies to your particular appointment.
- The charge shown for the change you are making.
- Whether the replacement date falls inside your authorized window.
- How to confirm that the old appointment has actually been changed or canceled.
The full certification-exam fee bands were not verified in the sources checked for this guide. Do not apply the separate ANCC Readiness Test's cancellation charges to your certification appointment. For the broader payment picture, use the FNP-BC exam cost guide, then confirm the transaction-specific amount with Prometric.
How is withdrawing the application different?
Canceling an appointment does not, by itself, submit a withdrawal request to ANCC. Under ANCC's withdrawal policy, a written request must reach ANCC before you take the examination and before the end of your testing window. Any refund excludes the administrative fee.
The policy lists customerservice@ana.org for withdrawal requests. Use the current official withdrawal page to confirm the instructions, and retain your request and ANCC's response. If an appointment is already booked, also address that booking with Prometric; do not assume withdrawal cancels the reservation automatically.
Choose withdrawal when you want to stop the application process. Choose an appointment change when you still intend to test within the existing window. Ask about reassignment when you still intend to test but need a different eligibility period. Those choices have different consequences, so a cancellation confirmation alone is not evidence that all three have been handled.
What confirmation should you save?
Keep the records that answer three separate questions: when ANCC authorizes you to test, what Prometric has booked, and what money or application change was confirmed.
Your final check should include the ATT window, current appointment confirmation, any cancellation record, and any ANCC reassignment or withdrawal response. If the dates disagree, resolve the discrepancy before relying on the new schedule.
Once the administrative question is settled, make the extra preparation time specific using the FNP-BC content outline. Start with the 20 free FNP-BC practice questions to identify topics worth revisiting. For a longer rehearsal, full FNP-BC prep planned for launch includes a 175-question mock exam for rehearsal. The immediate next step is to confirm the correct transaction and its deadline, then organize study around the appointment you actually hold.
