NASM CPT retake planner

Rate how each official domain went on your last attempt. You get a retake plan weighted by the official outline, with the domains you found hardest first and a schedule for every week until your retake.

Build my retake plan

Step 1 of 2

Rate how each domain went

Your NASM-CPT Score Report shows how you did in each domain. Use it to rate each one below; the planner doesn't need exact scores. So the priorities in your plan come from your own answers, not from an official score.

The 6 official domains

Leave a domain blank if you’re not sure. Blank ones keep their official share with a little extra time; the planner never guesses.

Basic and Applied Sciences and Nutritional Concepts15% of the exam
Client Relations and Behavioral Coaching15% of the exam
Assessment16% of the exam
Program Design20% of the exam
Exercise Technique and Training Instruction24% of the exam
Professional Development and Responsibility10% of the exam

Step 2 of 2

Add your dates and the time you have

Used only to check the earliest retake date against the official waiting rule.

After a first failed attempt, wait one week; after a second, wait 30 days; after a third or later failure, wait one year. Each retest is bought separately unless your program includes one (NASM names CPT Premium Self-Study and CPT All-Inclusive). NASM-CPT Exam Info: Format, Scheduling & Retakes

Your answers stay in this browser tab. Passy records only that a plan was built, never your ratings or dates.

How the plan sets your priorities

Your NASM-CPT Score Report shows how you did in each domain. Use it to rate each one below; the planner doesn't need exact scores. So the planner asks you instead: the domains you mark as hard start your plan, mixed ones are strengthened, and confident ones get lighter review. Your answers are a self-assessment, not an official result.

Each domain starts from its share of the exam in the official outline, multiplied by its priority: 3× to start, 2× to strengthen, 1.5× if you leave it blank, and 1× to maintain. A quarter of your time is mixed practice across all domains. This is Passy’s planning method; it doesn’t estimate a score or a chance of passing.

Retake rules for the NASM CPT

After a first failed attempt, wait one week; after a second, wait 30 days; after a third or later failure, wait one year. Each retest is bought separately unless your program includes one (NASM names CPT Premium Self-Study and CPT All-Inclusive).

  • Candidate Handbook (updated 9/2025) wording: 'For each repeated failure after the third attempt, candidates will be required to wait a full year'; the exam-info page says 'third attempt or more, the retest waiting period is one year'.
  • Retests are purchased through NASM Member Services after the waiting period.
  • The handbook names only CPT All-Inclusive for a free first retest; the exam-info page also lists CPT Premium Self-Study.
