PMHNP-BC Exam Cost for 2027: Fees, Discounts, and a Payment Plan

Plan a 2027 PMHNP-BC exam budget using ANCC's current fees, membership discounts, optional readiness price, and the amount retained if you withdraw.

Short answer

ANCC lists the initial PMHNP-BC certification fee at $395 for nonmembers and $220–$340 for qualifying members, checked November 3, 2026. The fee includes a $140 nonrefundable administrative portion. For a 2027 appointment, use these current amounts as a provisional budget and confirm your price and membership eligibility before paying; future prices have not been verified.

What does ANCC currently charge for PMHNP-BC?

ANCC's initial PMHNP-BC certification fee is $395 for nonmembers, with qualifying membership rates from $220 to $340, checked November 3, 2026. The $140 nonrefundable administrative portion is already included in those prices, so you should not add it again.

For a candidate planning to test in 2027, the current fee table is a useful starting estimate. It is not a confirmed 2027 price list. Check the PMHNP-BC page again before submitting payment, even if you have already set aside the amount below.

Initial certification categoryCurrent feeSaving against $395
Nonmember$395—
ANA member$295$100
AANP member$340$55
AANP student member$290$105
APNA member$220$175
ISPN member$340$55
GAPNA member$340$55

These are ANCC initial certification fees. They do not establish what a retake, renewal, membership, or preparation purchase will cost. The lowest listed rate is the APNA member rate, but it is only relevant if you qualify for that discount.

Before committing the fee, review the PMHNP-BC eligibility requirements and identify your membership category. Paying a fee does not substitute for meeting the certification requirements.

Which membership discount can you claim?

ANCC does not combine discounts, and ANA e-membership does not qualify for the ANA discount, under the rules checked November 3, 2026. If you belong to more than one listed organization, compare the applicable rates and resolve the discount before payment. Follow ANCC's stated five-business-day limit for claiming a discount after receipt of the application.

The fee difference is not necessarily your net saving. If you would buy a membership solely to obtain the exam discount, compare the qualifying dues with the discount:

  • APNA: the exam fee is $175 below the nonmember price. Joining solely for that discount saves money only if the qualifying membership costs less than $175.
  • ANA: the corresponding threshold is $100, provided the membership category qualifies.
  • AANP student: the threshold is $105; verify that you qualify for the student rate when making the claim.
  • AANP, ISPN, or GAPNA: the threshold is $55 for each listed category.

Those thresholds are arithmetic, not membership-price quotes. At the threshold, membership plus the discounted exam fee equals the $395 nonmember fee. Above it, the combined purchase costs more, although membership may have other value to you. Use the organization's actual dues and eligibility terms before deciding.

Preparation spending is another decision. Start with the PMHNP-BC guide to the five exam domains to see what you need to review. For broader question practice, full PMHNP-BC prep planned for launch includes 1,700 questions across five content domains.

How can you build a realistic 2027 budget?

Use separate lines for the certification fee, optional preparation, and personal expenses. ANCC's optional PMHNP Readiness Test costs $85 per session, checked November 3, 2026. It is not a certification requirement and does not predict your certification result.

The following examples use current fees and one optional readiness purchase. They are provisional subtotals for 2027 planning:

CandidateInitial certificationOptional readinessSubtotal
Nonmember$395$85$480
Eligible APNA member$220$85$305
Eligible ANA member$295$85$380

If you skip readiness, your subtotal is simply the initial fee in the second column. None of these examples includes membership dues, travel, lodging, or other preparation. Add those only where they apply, using your actual quotes. No universal amount for those expenses was verified.

For a 2027 test date, divide the budget into three payment stages. This sequence is editorial planning advice, not an ANCC installment arrangement:

Planning stageWhat to recordWhat to verify before spending
Before submitting the certification applicationYour fee category and any membership purchaseCurrent ANCC fee, discount eligibility, and your education requirements
Before an optional readiness purchaseA separate rehearsal lineCurrent price, availability, and whether the rehearsal fits your study needs
Before committing travel or lodgingYour own travel estimateThe appointment details and the provider's booking terms

A readiness purchase gives one use, and ANCC says later purchases use the same questions. Do not budget multiple sessions on the assumption that each buys a new question set. Recheck the readiness offering before a 2027 purchase.

What money can you recover if plans change?

ANCC's withdrawal policy requires a written request before you take the examination and before your testing window ends, checked November 3, 2026. The administrative portion is excluded from the refund. With the current $140 administrative amount, the calculation is:

Original certification paymentAdministrative amount retainedAmount remaining for a qualifying refund
$395 nonmember fee$140$255
$220 APNA member fee$140$80

The second example matters when assessing the lower fee: an eligible APNA member pays less initially, but a qualifying withdrawal still leaves the same $140 administrative deduction. Only $80 remains from a $220 payment. The discount does not make the whole payment refundable.

Canceling a Prometric appointment is separate from withdrawing your ANCC application. To request withdrawal, follow ANCC's written process and its listed contact, customerservice@ana.org. Send the request while both timing conditions still hold, and keep the request and response with your payment record.

These calculations do not establish a refund for readiness, travel, or another preparation purchase. They also do not promise an initial-fee refund after testing or after the window ends. Confirm an unclear case with ANCC before counting on the money.

The current certification retest fee and complete ordinary rescheduling fee bands were not verified for this guide. Keep those contingency costs unresolved in your worksheet until you obtain the applicable official quote; do not reuse the initial fee or readiness fees as substitutes.

What should you recheck before paying?

A workable 2027 budget has a provisional amount now and a verified amount when each payment is due. A check date beside every estimate helps you distinguish a current quote from one carried forward from an earlier planning session.

  1. Confirm the initial fee on ANCC's PMHNP-BC page. Replace the November 3, 2026 baseline with the price then shown.
  2. Resolve the discount and any new dues. Choose one qualifying category and follow the current claim instructions.
  3. Coordinate payment with your records. Use the 2027 PMHNP-BC application timeline to connect school documents, certification approval, and appointment planning.
  4. Price optional items separately. Recheck readiness before purchasing it and add actual personal expenses rather than treating $305 or $480 as an all-inclusive total.
  5. Review the financial effect of changing plans. Record the retained administrative amount and any separate booking terms before committing money.

Use the free PMHNP-BC study plan alongside the exam-content overview to decide where preparation time should go. For a longer practice session, full PMHNP-BC prep planned for launch includes a 175-question mock exam.

Your next step is to write down your qualifying fee, mark optional purchases, and set a reminder to recheck each price before paying in 2027. Keep the official source and the date of that check with your budget.
