ACE CPT Exam Cost: $499 Alone, $99 With a Study Program, and the Fees After That

ACE's scheduling page lists these Personal Trainer fees, as checked on October 27, 2026. They apply to the NCCA-accredited exam, not to the open-book certificate exam that comes with ACE's study programs.

Three rules sit next to the table:

• With a study program, it's $99. ACE's Exam Options page lists a "Registration fee of $99 with all Personal Trainer Study Programs ($499 if purchased without a Study Program)." It adds that the discounted exam stays available "at any time. This offer never expires."
• Online costs the same. ACE says the fees are the same at a test site and with a live remote proctor.
• Chinese-language exams are separate. The handbook says exam vouchers can't be used for Chinese-language exams, which carry an additional fee.

Third-party pages still quote older ACE prices such as $399. Use ACE's current table, and check it again on the day you pay.

If you're searching for the fee in India or another country, ACE's international computer-based table lists the same dollar amounts as the U.S. and Canada table. Prices charged through ACE's international education partners weren't checked for this guide.

What ACE's Personal Trainer study programs cost

The study programs are optional: ACE's handbook says buying ACE materials "is not required to register for or pass an ACE Certification Exam." If you do buy one, these were the prices on ACE's Personal Trainer Certification page and its study program comparison page on October 27, 2026. Both showed a sale price next to the list price. A sale price can change or end at any time, so treat these as a one-day snapshot and check ACE's page on the day you buy.

What each program included on that day:

All three include ACE University (ACE's learning platform), the digital Study Companion and the open-book certificate exam. The Plus and Advantage programs showed four-payment plans starting at "$49 today." The accredited exam is not included in any of them: it's the $99 add-on.

Exam only or study program? The ACE CPT cost math

The $400 gap between the $499 exam-only price and the $99 add-on is what makes this a real comparison. Using ACE's fee table and the study-program prices shown on October 27, 2026:

At the sale prices observed, the cheapest study program route cost $94.50 more than the exam alone. At list prices the gap is $589. Whether that's worth it depends on whether you already own a current textbook and how much structure you need. ACE's outline points out that the knowledge the exam requires is "not solely represented in any single text," so no package covers everything on its own.

ACE CPT fees after the first attempt

The renewal fees come from ACE's renewal page. Renewal also needs 20 hours (2.0 CECs) of ACE-approved continuing education, and those courses have their own prices.

If you bought a retake voucher with your study program, ACE emails you when it's added to your account, and you must use it to register within 60 days of the failed exam. ACE refund and voucher rules

The handbook's refund rules for study programs that include an exam voucher are strict:

• 30 days to return materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase. ACE allows no exchanges and no partial refunds, and items not in good condition carry a 20% restocking fee on the program's total cost.
• Using the voucher ends the return option. A program whose voucher was redeemed within 30 days of purchase can't be returned.
• Vouchers don't move. They're non-refundable and non-transferable, must be redeemed within 6 months of purchase, and can't be extended.

For documented emergencies such as serious illness or bereavement, the handbook says to request an exception no later than 30 days after the exam date. ACE then offers to apply the fee to a registration within the next six months or to refund the exam fee in full.

Ways to pay less for the ACE CPT

• Military benefits. The handbook says active military, veterans and eligible spouses and dependents can be reimbursed for ACE exam fees, first attempts and retakes, through the GI Bill.
• MyCAA for military spouses. Eligible spouses can be reimbursed by the Department of Defense for ACE exam fees and study materials. ACE shares pass or fail status with MyCAA only with your written consent.

A worked ACE CPT budget (fictional candidates)

Maya has a kinesiology degree and the textbook from a college course. Leo is new to fitness and wants a structured course. Both already hold a qualifying CPR/AED card.
