ATI TEAS Graphs, Tables, and Data Questions

Measurement & Data items ask you to read axes, units, and the exact quantity named. Mean, median, mode, and range still need the right data set. The calculator does not choose the graph.

Short answer

ATI TEAS 7 Mathematics includes Measurement & Data as 16 of 34 scored math items. Graph and table questions require you to read the title, axes, units, and the exact comparison the stem named. Statistics items require the correct measure—mean, median, mode, or range—on the correct list of numbers. An on-screen calculator, when provided, does not choose which bar to read.

Read the labels before you compute

A TEAS graph item is a reading-and-math hybrid: identify the axis, the trend, and the exact quantity the question named. Say the title and units out loud, then find the bar or point the stem asked for. Math formulas owns the formula map and conversions. This page owns tables, graphs, and elementary statistics inside Measurement & Data (16 scored items).

Numbers & Algebra (18 scored items) is a different cluster. Word problems that are mostly percent-and-proportion belong with that map and with the draft word-problem Guide, not here.

Graphs and tables

Title first. Then axes. Then units (mg, %, year). Then the legend if two series exist.

The stem might want:

  • a single plotted value
  • a difference between two categories
  • which category is greatest
  • a trend across time

Original example (Passy): A bar graph titled “Clinic no-shows by weekday” shows Monday 12, Tuesday 9, Wednesday 9, Thursday 7, Friday 14.

“Which day had the most no-shows?” is Friday. “How many more no-shows occurred on Friday than on Thursday?” is 7, not 14. “What is the range of weekday no-shows?” is 14 − 7 = 7.

Those numbers are a teaching sketch. They are not a live TEAS figure.

A line graph can make a steep slope look dramatic. Still read the scale. A break in the y-axis, if shown, can exaggerate change. Believe the numbers, not the slope’s emotion.

Reading also uses visuals under Integration of Knowledge & Ideas. On a Reading item, the answer must be supported by the figure and the passage. On a Math item, the figure is the data.

If you keep reading the wrong series, practice items that only change the legend.

Mean, median, mode, range

Mean: sum divided by count. Outliers pull it.

Median: middle value after sorting. For an even count, average the two middle numbers if that is what the item requires.

Mode: most frequent value. A data set can have more than one mode, or none, depending on the list.

Range: largest minus smallest.

Use the list the stem gave, not a leftover list from the previous item. If a table includes a total row, do not average the total as if it were another data point unless the stem says to.

The online TEAS provides a calculator in the interface. ATI says not to bring your own. The calculator will happily divide the wrong total.

A compact attack order

  1. Circle what the question is asking (value, difference, trend, statistic).
  2. Confirm units and which series.
  3. Extract only the needed numbers.
  4. Compute.
  5. Check that the answer has the right unit and is in a plausible range.

What is on the TEAS places this inside the 57-minute Math section. Do not dump leftover Reading minutes into a graph you already answered.

When axis-and-legend misses repeat, keep a Measurement & Data block.

The calculator cannot choose the correct bar.
