CEH Voucher Expiration: Extension Options and Deadlines
How to check a CEH voucher's expiration date, compare the current extension options, and request help before an unused or expired voucher disrupts your exam plan.
Short answer
EC-Council's voucher policy sets a maximum initial validity of one year from purchase and says vouchers can be extended only once. For an unused, unexpired voucher, it lists three months for $49 or one year for $99; for an expired voucher, it lists a one-year extension for $99. Contact EC-Council at least five business days before expiration, and have it confirm the option and revised date for your voucher. These terms were checked November 3, 2026; the expired-voucher option is not a guarantee of approval for an individual request.
How long is a CEH voucher valid?
EC-Council's Exam Voucher & Extension Policy sets a maximum initial validity of one year from purchase and allows only one extension. It tells candidates to contact EC-Council at least five business days before the voucher expires, so check your recorded expiration date before deciding whether you can keep your current exam plan.
There is a wording difference between two official pages, checked November 3, 2026. The dedicated voucher policy measures validity from purchase, while the CEH certification FAQ describes one year from receipt. Use the expiration recorded for your actual voucher and ask EC-Council to resolve any mismatch. Do not calculate a later deadline from whichever wording gives you more time.
Start by locating the voucher message, purchase record and any previous extension confirmation. Record the expiration date and whether the voucher has already been extended. If those records disagree, resolve that before choosing a test date.
Keep this deadline separate from the earlier eligibility process. The CEH exam cost and eligibility guide explains the initial route and purchase decision; an extension request concerns a voucher you already hold.
What can you do before the voucher expires?
For an unused, unexpired voucher, the current policy lists a three-month extension for $49 or a one-year extension for $99. Both are subject to the one-extension limit. Check the current policy before paying, and contact EC-Council at least five business days before your recorded expiration date.
Use this order:
- Check the voucher's status. Confirm that it is unused, unexpired and has not already received an extension.
- Decide what time you need. Compare your realistic study schedule with the exam date you intend to request.
- Contact EC-Council. Ask which extension applies and what revised expiration date it would give your voucher.
- Confirm the appointment separately. Do not treat an extension request as a reserved exam slot.
If preparation is the reason for delaying, name the gaps first. Use the CEH exam blueprint guide to list topics you still need to review, then put that work into the free CEH study planner. That gives you a reason for choosing an extension length instead of simply buying more time.
For that domain-by-domain review, full CEH prep planned for launch is organized around nine domains. Plan the immediate work with resources already available to you; do not make the voucher decision depend on a future product launch.
What does the policy say about an expired voucher?
The same policy lists a one-year extension for $99 for expired vouchers, as checked November 3, 2026. That is a reason to contact EC-Council about your voucher; it is not a promise that every expired-voucher request will be approved.
Tell support whether the voucher has already been extended. The policy's one-extension limit still matters, and you should not assume that expiration creates a second opportunity to extend it. If you cannot establish its extension history, ask EC-Council to check the record.
Do not deliberately let a valid voucher expire because the policy mentions an expired-voucher option. Its instruction is still to make contact at least five business days before expiration. If you have already missed that point, explain the status accurately and ask for the applicable next step.
A voucher tied to an exam you have already taken raises a different question. If you need another attempt after a failure, start with the CEH retake policy and planning guide and ask EC-Council which voucher you need.
How much does an extension cost?
These are EC-Council's published extension options, checked November 3, 2026. They are extension charges, separate from the initial exam purchase.
| Voucher status | Listed extension | Listed fee | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unused and unexpired | Three months | $49 USD | No previous extension and the revised expiration date |
| Unused and unexpired | One year | $99 USD | No previous extension and the revised expiration date |
| Expired | One year | $99 USD | Whether your particular voucher qualifies |
| Already extended once | No further extension listed under the one-time rule | — | Your next option with EC-Council |
Choose based on the time you realistically need, because the policy permits only one extension. Do not build a plan around buying the three-month option now and adding the one-year option later.
EC-Council also states that new, retake and extended vouchers are nonrefundable, nontransferable and nonexchangeable. Read the current terms before payment; do not budget on recovering the extension charge or passing the voucher to someone else if your plans change.
Before choosing a longer study period, try the 20 free CEH practice questions and note which questions reveal gaps in your knowledge. For broader practice, full CEH prep planned for launch includes 1,800 questions. Neither an extension nor a practice result settles whether you are ready to take the exam.
Is extending a voucher the same as rescheduling?
No. An extension concerns the voucher's validity; rescheduling concerns an appointment. Pearson VUE's EC-Council page provides separate scheduling, rescheduling and cancellation links and says appointments are subject to availability.
If you already have an appointment, check its instructions before changing it. The sources reviewed here do not establish a universal CEH cancellation deadline, rescheduling charge or no-show exception. Do not borrow a rule from another certification program or assume that paying for an extension cancels your booking.
For a Pearson VUE appointment, the official page also requires an eligibility number to schedule and sit the exam. Keep that number with your booking records and confirm that the revised appointment works with your voucher's confirmed validity.
Use the CEH registration and booking timeline to connect the steps. The useful end point is a confirmed voucher date and a confirmed appointment, with any earlier booking dealt with under its own terms.
What should you send with an extension request?
Prepare a short record before contacting EC-Council. The following is an editorial checklist to make the request clear, not an official mandatory document list:
- Your exam name and voucher reference, using EC-Council's official contact channel.
- The purchase or receipt record and the expiration shown on the voucher.
- Whether it is unused, expired or previously extended.
- The extension you want and the test date you are working toward.
- Any existing appointment and the specific issue you need clarified.
Ask EC-Council to confirm the available option, current charge, payment instructions and revised expiration date. Keep the response with the voucher records. If the answer leaves the date unclear, resolve that before treating the extension as complete.
Once the administrative dates are settled, give the extra study time a specific purpose: list unfinished topics, schedule review and revisit mistakes. For recall practice alongside that work, full CEH prep planned for launch includes 500 flashcards.
Your next action is to find the voucher's actual expiration and extension history. If the deadline is approaching, contact EC-Council now; then align your study plan and appointment with the dates it confirms.
