NAPLEX Accommodations: Requests, Comfort Aids, and Booking

How to request NAPLEX testing accommodations, distinguish a listed comfort aid from an adjustment needing approval, and confirm medical-device or lactation arrangements before booking.

Short answer

Submit the NAPLEX accommodation form and supporting documents during your online application, as NABP directs. After approval, you must schedule the accommodated appointment by phone with Pearson. Some listed comfort aids do not need advance approval, but a separate medical-device controller, including a phone, requires approval to enter the testing room.

Which NAPLEX needs call for an accommodation request?

NABP directs you to submit the accommodation form and supporting documents during the online NAPLEX application process. Once approved, you must book the accommodated appointment by phone with Pearson; an ordinary booking can leave your accommodations unavailable.

Pearson describes extra testing time, separate rooms, and break arrangements as possible accommodations considered individually. A diagnosis or use of a medical aid does not automatically establish which adjustment will be approved. Start with the testing arrangement you need and follow NABP's request process.

The policies here were checked November 3, 2026. NABP's accommodations bulletin section is dated March 2026, while Pearson's comfort-aid list was updated October 30, 2026. Recheck both before submitting your request and before booking.

Keep two tasks on your planning list: arranging access to testing and preparing for its content. The NAPLEX blueprint guide covers the content side. For broader study practice, full NAPLEX prep planned for launch includes 825 questions across the five content domains.

How do you distinguish a comfort aid from an approved adjustment?

A listed comfort aid that meets Pearson's conditions does not require advance approval. It is still subject to inspection. An approved accommodation changes a testing arrangement or authorizes something that needs prior review; permission for one item does not establish permission for an additional adjustment.

For example, Pearson lists an inhaler as a comfort aid. That listing does not itself grant extra testing time, a separate room, or a different break schedule. Check the exact item and its conditions, then identify any separate arrangement you need.

Use this Passy worksheet to organize your checks. The rows illustrate questions to resolve, not decisions on an individual's eligibility. Keep the worksheet private; send supporting health documents only through the official process.

Do not classify an item by its everyday purpose alone. Some supplies qualify as comfort aids only when provided by a Pearson Professional Center. If the listing leaves your setup unclear, resolve that question through the official accommodations process before relying on it at the center.

When and where should you submit supporting documents?

Use the form and supporting-document instructions in NABP's accommodations process during your online application. NABP reviews the request, followed by the board of pharmacy where applicable. Candidates applying through the District of Columbia or Virginia should also check the board's documentation instructions.

A useful submission sequence is:

  1. Describe the requested arrangement. Identify each adjustment and each item whose permission needs checking.
  2. Read the current form instructions. Use those instructions to determine the required supporting documents; this worksheet is not a replacement form.
  3. Submit through the stated process. Keep your own record of what you submitted and any subsequent official correspondence.
  4. Read the decision. Approved candidates receive an email notification. Check what was actually approved before planning around it.

Do not assign yourself a review deadline based on another candidate's experience. No fixed review turnaround is established by the sources used here. If your application is already underway and you still need to request an arrangement, seek instructions from NABP rather than assuming a test-center conversation will complete the process.

Use the NAPLEX registration and ATT guide for the surrounding application stages. While the request is being handled, the free NAPLEX study plan can help you organize content review. For recall practice, full NAPLEX prep planned for launch includes 580 flashcards.

What should you check for a medical device or lactation need?

An attached monitor and its phone controller are separate checks

Pearson's comfort-aid rules require attached medical devices to be inaudible; a device that makes noise needs accommodation approval. An external controller, including a phone, needs prior approval to enter the testing room. Devices cannot be plugged into the testing workstation.

Consider a hypothetical candidate who uses an inaudible attached monitor with a separate phone controller. The silent monitor does not settle the controller question. The candidate should describe both components in the request and confirm the approved access arrangements before booking. This is a permissions check, not advice to change a device's medical settings.

NABP's ordinary exam-day rules prohibit phone access during breaks. Do not assume that stepping outside the testing room permits controller use: resolve the specific arrangement through the approval process.

Pumping or breastfeeding needs advance coordination

Pearson states that pumping or breastfeeding during an appointment requires the exam program's approval and may affect which test centers are available. Its arrangements distinguish Pearson's own Americas centers from third-party sites, so do not assume every location offers the same room.

For an anticipated pumping need, describe the arrangement you are requesting and confirm the approved break and space details for the actual appointment. Ask how the arrangement will work at the selected center before making dependent plans.

NABP ordinarily prohibits leaving the building after check-in. Pearson's general breastfeeding information does not remove that NAPLEX restriction. Unless a specific arrangement has been approved, plan to remain inside the building. The NAPLEX exam-day checklist covers the ordinary admission and break rules.

How do you book after approval?

Approval, an Authorization to Test (ATT), and an appointment confirmation are separate parts of the process. NABP's application instructions place exam purchase after eligibility approval; the ATT then provides the eligibility dates and scheduling instructions.

For approved accommodations, schedule by phone with Pearson. Follow the instructions provided with your approval and ATT. Do not treat an online appointment as proof that the approved arrangements have been attached to your booking.

During that conversation, compare the arrangements you need with the approval you received. Confirm the test center, date, time, and how any approved device access, room, or break arrangement will be provided. Keep the appointment confirmation with your approval correspondence and resolve any discrepancy before test day.

For practice between administrative steps, use the 20 free NAPLEX practice questions. A separate option for future exam rehearsal is the 225-question mock exam included in full NAPLEX prep planned for launch. Use your confirmed testing arrangements when deciding how to organize your own practice sessions.

What should your final accommodation checklist include?

Before treating the appointment as settled, check that you can answer each of these:

  • What is permitted? Identify the exact comfort aid and its conditions, or the specific approved adjustment.
  • What is still unresolved? Review controllers, noise, breaks, and room needs separately instead of assuming one approval covers all of them.
  • Were the documentation instructions followed? Include any applicable board requirements.
  • Was the accommodated appointment booked by phone? Compare your approval correspondence with the confirmed arrangements.
  • Can the chosen center provide what was arranged? Resolve any question about lactation space or device access before arrival.

For questions about results after testing, use the NAPLEX pass rates and passing-score guide. Your next step here is to open NABP's current accommodations instructions and Pearson's comfort-aid list, identify the exact request or item, and complete the missing stage: submission, approval review, or phone booking.
