NPTE-PT Cost: $485 Plus the Fees Most Totals Leave Out

One NPTE-PT attempt costs $605 once FSBPT's processing fee and Prometric's sitting fee are added, before state fees. Here is the full breakdown, what changing your plans costs, optional FSBPT products, and FSBPT's fee freeze through 2027.

Short answer

The NPTE-PT exam fee is $485, paid to FSBPT when you register, plus a 1.6% processing fee rounded up to the nearest dollar, which is $8 by Passy's arithmetic. Prometric's sitting fee, paid when you book your seat, is $112. That makes $605 for one attempt, before your state's licensure application fee and any jurisprudence exam. FSBPT has said the $485 fee will stay the same through December 31, 2027. A retake costs the full amount again.

The NPTE-PT exam-day total

Two organizations charge you for one NPTE-PT attempt: FSBPT when you register, and Prometric when you book your seat. These are the amounts on FSBPT's registration and payment page and scheduling page, as checked on October 27, 2026:

FeePaid toWhenAmount
NPTE-PT exam feeFSBPTAt registration$485.00
Processing fee: 1.6%, rounded up to the nearest dollarFSBPTAt registration$8.00
NPTE-PT sitting feePrometricWhen you schedule$112.00
One attempt$605.00

The $8 is Passy's arithmetic: 1.6% of $485 is $7.76, and FSBPT rounds up. FSBPT takes Visa, MasterCard or Discover, credit or debit. Prometric takes Visa or MasterCard, or a direct debit from a checking account, and its fee is due when you schedule.

If you see a total near $585 elsewhere, it uses Prometric's old fee: FSBPT's 2024 faculty newsletter announced that the PT sitting fee would rise from $100.30 to $112.00 for exams from January 1, 2025. Totals that stop at $597 leave out the processing fee.

NPTE-PT costs that come from your state

FSBPT's registration page says plainly that its fees are for the examination only: your state charges separately for the licensure application. Those amounts vary by board, so check your board's fee schedule.

Your state may also require a jurisprudence exam on its laws and rules. FSBPT's jurisprudence page says 29 states require one for licensure. FSBPT administers some of these itself, at these prices before its 1.6% processing fee:

FSBPT-administered state law toolPrice
Jurisprudence exams (District of Columbia, Florida)$65 each, plus Prometric's $32.50 sitting fee for law exams
Jurisprudence Assessment Modules (JAMs)$48 in Alabama, Arizona, Hawaii, Kansas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio and Oregon; $50 in California; $65 in Georgia, Maryland and Nebraska
Texas JAM$0 for initial licensure ($48 for renewal)

If your state isn't in this table, ask its board how its jurisprudence requirement works and what it costs.

What changing your NPTE-PT plans costs

Plans change, and the handbook prices every change. Cancelling means two separate actions: cancel the Prometric appointment, and withdraw your registration with FSBPT. Doing only one leaves the other in place.

ChangeCost
Reschedule or cancel at Prometric 30 or more days beforeNo charge
Reschedule or cancel at Prometric 5 to 29 days before$60
Reschedule or cancel at Prometric less than 5 days beforeThe full sitting fee
Withdraw from FSBPT 30 or more days before exam day$50 processing fee; you choose a refund or credit toward a future registration
Withdraw from FSBPT fewer than 30 days before exam day$120 processing fee, same choice
Not withdrawn by the end of your testing windowThe whole FSBPT fee is forfeited
Not approved by your jurisdiction in timeRefund minus a $50 processing fee
No-show, or turned away for ID that doesn't matchPrometric fee forfeited; you can still withdraw from FSBPT by the end of the window for a partial refund

Two rules surprise people. FSBPT makes no exceptions for illness: if you're sick on exam day, you have to withdraw to get the partial refund. And you can reschedule at Prometric only within the testing window on your Authorization to Test. Moving to a later administration means withdrawing and registering again.

A worked example. You're registered for July 27–28, 2027 and decide on July 6 to move to October. That's 21 days before your appointment: Prometric charges $60 to cancel, and withdrawing from FSBPT fewer than 30 days before costs $120. You can apply the rest of the FSBPT fee to the October registration, then pay Prometric again when you book. Deciding by June 27, 30 days ahead, would have cost nothing at Prometric and $50 at FSBPT. For the 2027 deadlines, see the NPTE-PT test dates guide.

Optional FSBPT products and their NPTE-PT prices

ProductPriceWith the 1.6% fee (Passy's arithmetic)What it is
PEAT (PT)$99$101Two timed 225-question practice exams, 90 days of access or until you pass
Performance Feedback Report$100$102Your performance by work activity, body system and section, after you test
Individual Score Report$90$92A copy of your score once the free 30-day report expires
Score transfer to another state$90Not statedSends your score to a jurisdiction other than the one you chose

PEAT's access countdown starts only when you begin the first practice exam. FSBPT refunds PEAT before that, minus a $15 processing fee, and not after. The feedback report and score report are non-refundable once processed. The handbook lists the $90 score-transfer fee without mentioning the processing fee, so confirm the final amount at checkout. PEAT gives you two full exams; for quick daily recall between them, you can see the planned 580 flashcards sorted by outline area.

What an NPTE-PT retake costs

Every attempt is a new registration with standard fees, so a second attempt costs another $605. FSBPT's first recommendation for retakers is the Performance Feedback Report, which adds $102. Before you count on a quick second try, read the NPTE-PT retake rules guide: attempt limits and fixed dates decide when you can test again, not just the budget.

Is the NPTE-PT fee going up in 2027?

Not according to what FSBPT has published. Its 2024 second-quarter faculty newsletter says the board decided to "delay any NPTE fee increase until at least 2028," that the NPTE-PT and NPTE-PTA fees "will remain" $485 "until December 31, 2027," and that FSBPT will re-evaluate the fee structure in 2027. The same newsletter notes that the last increase was in 2019. FSBPT's registration page still lists $485 as of October 27, 2026. For a test date in 2028, check that page again before you register.

Budgeting for NPTE-PT prep

FSBPT's own prep products are listed above. Full Passy prep for the NPTE-PT isn't on sale yet. When it opens, it's planned as a single payment for 30, 90 or 180 days with no auto-renewal, and you can compare the planned one-time prices of $19.99, $34.99 and $49.99 now.

Some prep costs nothing. Passy's 20 free NPTE-PT practice questions, study planner and retake planner need no account and stay free.

Your next step on NPTE-PT fees

Before you pay anything, open your state board's licensure application and note its fee and whether it requires a jurisprudence exam. Then register with FSBPT before your date's registration and payment deadline, and book Prometric as soon as your Authorization to Test arrives. The registration and eligibility guide walks through the sequence. If you're deciding between free and paid practice, you can check which features are planned beyond the free practice set, such as the timed mock exam and Weak Spot drills.
