NPTE-PT Test Dates for 2027: Registration, Approval, and Score Release Deadlines

FSBPT has published the four 2027 NPTE-PT administrations and every deadline attached to them. Here is the full calendar, how the deadline chain works, how to work backward from your date, and the before-graduation rule.

Short answer

FSBPT has published four NPTE-PT administrations for 2027: January 26–27, April 27–28, July 27–28, and October 26–27. For each one, you must register and pay about five weeks ahead (December 22, 2026 for January, then March 23, June 22 and September 21), and your jurisdiction must approve you one week after that. Scores reach jurisdictions about a week after the second test day. Every deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, and some states set earlier application deadlines of their own.

The NPTE-PT is given only on fixed dates, four times a year. FSBPT's future dates page lists these physical therapist dates for 2027, as checked on October 27, 2026. All deadlines are 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Each administration runs on two days, a Tuesday and a Wednesday in 2027, and you test on one of them. Your Authorization to Test (ATT) letter shows your testing window, and FSBPT's scheduling page says you must sit for the exam on the date indicated in that letter.

How the deadline chain works for each 2027 date

Every 2027 administration follows the same rhythm, counted back from the first test day:

  1. About five weeks before: register and pay. You must have both registered with FSBPT and paid the $485 fee by this deadline. The handbook says a registration that isn't paid by then is closed, and you wait for the next date.
  2. About four weeks before: jurisdiction approval. This is the last day your state board, or its designee, can tell FSBPT you're eligible. If you're not approved in time, FSBPT closes your registration and refunds the fee minus a $50 processing fee. FSBPT's tables add that some states have earlier application deadlines.
  3. About two weeks before: the seat-reservation date. FSBPT lists a date until which seats are reserved for candidates. Schedule your Prometric appointment as soon as your ATT arrives. The handbook warns that centers fill quickly and scheduling is first come, first served.
  4. One week after the second test day: scores. Your pass/fail status appears on your dashboard, and your score goes to your jurisdiction.
  5. Two weeks after the second test day: the free score report. It shows your scaled score and stays free for 30 days.

The NPTE-PT passing score guide explains what that report contains.

Working backward from your 2027 NPTE-PT date

Suppose you're aiming for April 27–28, 2027. Here's the chain, with the state step first because it usually takes longest:

WhenWhat to doRule behind it
Now, well before MarchGet your state's licensure application, check whether it needs a jurisprudence exam first, and send what it asks forFSBPT's handbook: state processing times vary, so send documents well before the approval deadline

By March 30Your state (or FSBPT, in states that let FSBPT approve CAPTE graduates) makes you eligibleJurisdiction approval deadline

The registration and eligibility guide covers each step, including when FSBPT rather than your state approves you. Once your date is fixed, you can match a planned 90- or 180-day access period to a 2027 test date; checkout isn't open yet.

The January 2027 NPTE-PT date if you register now

The last 2026 PT administration runs October 27–28, 2026, so January 26–27, 2027 is the next one. Its registration and payment deadline is December 22, 2026, and the jurisdiction approval deadline is January 5, 2027. If your state board must approve you and you haven't applied yet, start now: FSBPT can't issue an ATT until both your payment and your state's approval are in.

Taking the NPTE-PT before graduation

The handbook says FSBPT allows you to sit for the NPTE up to 90 days before your graduation date, but jurisdictions may have more restrictive policies. If you're in a CAPTE-accredited program, your school must first validate that you're on track to graduate; you can't register until it does.

FSBPT's 2026 Forum article on fixed-date testing shows how candidates actually time their first attempt. From 2023 to 2025, PT candidates took the NPTE for the first time an average of 47 days after graduating, 92% tested within 90 days of graduation (counting those who tested before it), 33% tested before graduation, and about 5% skipped their first opportunity after graduating. The NPTE-PT pass rates guide explains what FSBPT says about pass rates before and after graduation, and why the gap shouldn't be read as a reason to rush.

A practical way to choose: pick the first date for which you can finish a full review, not simply the first date you're allowed. Since only four dates exist each year, missing a deadline or testing before you're ready costs you about three months either way. If you're estimating how much practice fits before a given date, you can see what full NPTE-PT prep is planned to include at launch, from question counts by outline area to the mock exam.

If you might need a second 2027 date

FSBPT's retake page says there's no fixed waiting period beyond the next available test date, and the handbook says you can register again about 15 days after an unsuccessful attempt. Each 2027 registration deadline falls about eight weeks after the previous administration, so someone who tests in January can usually register for April with weeks to spare. Two limits shape the year: no more than three consecutive attempts in 12 months (after three in a row, you must skip the next date), and six attempts in a lifetime. The NPTE-PT retake rules guide works through examples.

The 2028 NPTE-PT dates are already published

FSBPT's future dates page also lists 2028, which helps if you graduate late in 2027:

Test datesRegister and pay byJurisdiction approval by
January 25–26, 2028December 15, 2027January 4, 2028
April 25–26, 2028March 21March 28
July 25–26, 2028June 20June 27
October 24–25, 2028September 19September 26

Note that the January 2028 registration deadline, December 15, comes a week earlier in the calendar than the December 22 deadline for January 2027.

PTA dates are different

The NPTE-PTA has its own fixed dates, about three weeks earlier in each quarter: January 5–6, April 6–7, July 7–8 and October 5–6 in 2027. If a calendar you find doesn't say "PT," check it against FSBPT's page before you plan around it.
