NREMT EMT Exam Cost: $104 Per Attempt

$104 is per attempt, not per career

The National Registry lists the EMT application fee as $104 per examination attempt. A missed appointment generally costs another full fee. Pay once through the application, then study as if the receipt cannot be undone →.

Refunds exist only inside the Registry’s payment policy: within 90 days, minus an administrative fee, for completing the wrong application or if you no longer wish to seek certification. A no-show is not on that list. The Registry does not refund failure to appear.

Pearson’s change fee is separate

If you need to reschedule or cancel, the EMT handbook says to do it through your National Registry application’s link to Pearson at least one business day (24 hours) before the exam. The fee to reschedule or cancel is $30. Phone changes add a Pearson call-center fee. A voicemail is not the process.

Miss the window, miss the exam, or get turned away at the door, and you forfeit the $104. You start a new application attempt for a new ATT. Exam-day check-in is how you avoid a preventable forfeit. Retake policy is what happens after a scored unsuccessful attempt—different from a no-show.

You can appeal a no-show with documented extenuating circumstances. That is not a self-serve refund.

What this bill does not include

State EMS application fees, course tuition, and BLS skills verification costs are not the $104. Cognitive versus skills is a second requirement, sometimes with its own charges.

Pearson may charge to schedule by phone even for a first appointment. Online scheduling from the ATT avoids that when it is available.

Travel, OnVUE equipment, and retake fees after a fail are extra.

Do not pay twice to “hurry” verification

If the ATT is waiting on a Program Director, a second payment does not speed them. Check the Candidate Dashboard.

If the ATT expires, that is another $104. Course completion that is about to age out can shorten the ATT. Read the Deadline to Test, not a 90-day guess.
