PMHNP-BC Readiness Test for 2027: When to Buy It and How to Use the Result
What ANCC's optional PMHNP Readiness Test costs and includes, how it differs from free samples, and when to use its feedback before a 2027 exam date.
Short answer
ANCC's optional PMHNP Readiness Test costs $85 and gives you 75 minutes to answer 60 questions in a proctored session, under terms checked November 3, 2026. It provides correct-answer counts by domain but does not predict whether you will pass certification, and buying it again repeats the same questions. For a 2027 test date, leave time to act on the feedback and confirm current availability, price, and suitability before purchasing.
What does the PMHNP Readiness Test include?
ANCC's optional PMHNP Readiness Test costs $85 for 60 questions answered in 75 minutes, under the terms checked November 3, 2026. It is a timed, live-proctored rehearsal with correct-answer counts by domain; ANCC says it does not predict success on the certification examination.
Each purchase covers one use, completed in one sitting. The readiness service offers test-center or remote delivery, and ANCC's PMHNP certification page links to the PMHNP readiness option. This rehearsal is not a certification requirement, so buying it does not satisfy an eligibility condition or replace the certification examination.
The practical buying question is what you need to learn. Consider it if you want experience answering under a time limit with a proctor, want domain feedback, and have time afterward to study. If you only want to see sample question style, begin with the free official samples. If you want proof that you will pass, the readiness result cannot supply that.
Before spending, write down the decision the feedback will inform: which topics to revisit, how to adjust practice, or whether your current study schedule leaves enough review time.
How is it different from free samples and the full exam?
The three ANCC options have different purposes. These details were checked November 3, 2026; confirm the current terms before a 2027 purchase or appointment.
| Option | What ANCC provides | What to use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Free official PMHNP sample questions | Untimed, repeatable samples that do not cover the full range of content or difficulty | Initial familiarization with questions |
| Paid PMHNP Readiness Test | 60 questions in 75 minutes, proctored, with correct-answer counts by domain | A shorter timed rehearsal and information for review priorities |
| PMHNP-BC certification exam | 175 questions in 3.5 hours; 150 scored and 25 pretest questions | The actual certification examination, subject to ANCC eligibility and certification requirements |
The certification exam is center-based. A remote readiness session does not establish that you can take the certification exam remotely. Likewise, finishing a 60-question session does not demonstrate how you will sustain attention through 175 questions.
ANCC also warns that completing its free samples neither establishes eligibility nor predicts certification success. Use the five-domain PMHNP-BC overview to see the content scope behind these practice choices, rather than treating the topics you happen to encounter as a complete syllabus.
For separate practice at the full question count, full PMHNP-BC prep planned for launch includes a 175-question mock exam. That planned resource and ANCC's paid readiness service are separate offerings.
When could it fit before a 2027 test date?
Schedule backward from the time you need to use the feedback. A rehearsal taken immediately before certification leaves little room to change your preparation. There is no required readiness-to-certification waiting period established by the sources here; the buffer below is Passy's editorial planning suggestion.
For a candidate targeting May 3, 2027, a provisional readiness session during April 12–18 would leave about two to three weeks before the target date. The example assumes the candidate can obtain suitable appointments; it is not a statement of availability or an ANCC deadline.
| Planning stage | Concrete output |
|---|---|
| Before choosing the readiness date | Confirm current PMHNP availability, fee, delivery option, and relevance to your intended certification exam |
| April 12–18, if a suitable session is available | Complete the optional rehearsal and read the domain report |
| The remaining weeks before May 3 | Turn weak areas into study tasks, use different practice questions, and include a longer timed rehearsal |
| Before the certification appointment | Check that you completed the planned review tasks and recheck your official appointment instructions |
This works best as a checkpoint inside an existing plan. The PMHNP-BC study plan for a 2027 test date places review tasks on a longer calendar; the free PMHNP-BC study plan is another starting point for organizing your time.
If your available dates leave no useful review buffer, decide whether the proctored experience alone is worth the fee. You can also skip the optional purchase and use that time for planned study. Neither choice determines whether you are ready to pass.
What should you do with the domain feedback?
ANCC describes a report with the number answered correctly in each domain and an email arriving about an hour after the readiness session, under terms checked November 3, 2026. Treat that as the published expectation rather than a guaranteed delivery time. It is a readiness report, not the certification result.
Use the feedback to make a short work list:
- Record the domain results as reported. Keep the date and note whether this was your first exposure to the readiness questions.
- Compare them with your existing study notes. A weak domain is a place to investigate. Look for recurring gaps in your other practice rather than assuming the report identifies every specific topic you need.
- Choose a concrete task. Replace “review the weak domain” with a task such as explaining a concept from your study materials, checking a distinction you confuse, or answering a fresh set of related questions.
- Check the task with different material. Ask whether you can explain your reasoning without relying on recognition of a repeated answer.
- Keep broad review on the calendar. A stronger result on a short rehearsal is not a reason to remove a whole domain from your preparation.
The 1,700 questions across five domains in full PMHNP-BC prep planned for launch are intended for broader practice. Do not assume an ANCC readiness purchase includes that question bank or access to Passy materials.
For a small free starting set, use the 20 free PMHNP-BC practice questions. Keep the purpose clear: practice can help you identify what to work on, but a small set cannot certify mastery of the whole outline.
Why can repeat attempts mislead you?
ANCC states that purchasing another readiness session gives you the same questions. A second purchase is therefore not a new independent sample of your preparation. A higher result may reflect recognition of the questions as well as learning; you cannot separate those effects from the total alone.
If you have already used the readiness test, mark that fact prominently beside any later result. Do not pay again expecting a different form. Choose different practice material when your purpose is to check whether you can apply what you studied to an unfamiliar question.
For recall review between practice sessions, full PMHNP-BC prep planned for launch includes 560 flashcards. Recall work still needs to sit alongside broader question practice and timed rehearsal.
Avoid inventing a pass threshold for the readiness result. ANCC's nonprediction warning means that a reassuring result is not a promised pass, and a disappointing result is not an official instruction to cancel your certification appointment. Use the feedback alongside your completed study tasks and performance on unfamiliar material.
What price, booking, and accommodation terms need rechecking?
Before paying in 2027, open the official ANCC Readiness Tests page again. The $85 fee and delivery terms quoted here were checked November 3, 2026; no guaranteed 2027 price, appointment supply, or new question form was verified.
The checked rules call for booking at least a day ahead and making changes by the second calendar day before the session. Change charges depend on timing, and a change less than two days before carries forfeiture. Read the current readiness-specific terms before booking; do not substitute the certification exam's cancellation rules.
If you need accommodations, resolve that before purchase. The readiness FAQ directs candidates to select “No” for its accommodations question and contact support. Do not assume that certification accommodations automatically apply to this separate service or that the two services provide identical arrangements.
Your next step is to choose a purpose and a provisional date, then verify the current terms. Keep the optional expense separate in your PMHNP-BC exam budget, and use the official-outline explanation in the PMHNP-BC overview to make the study tasks that follow the rehearsal specific.
