Rescheduling or Canceling PMHNP-BC: Appointments, Windows, and Refunds

Choose the right route for changing a PMHNP-BC appointment, requesting another testing window, or withdrawing your ANCC application, with verified fees and refund limits.

Short answer

Use Prometric to reschedule or cancel a PMHNP-BC appointment; ANCC separately handles testing-window reassignment and application withdrawal. The ANCC handbook allows one $100 reassignment to another 120-day window and states that cancellation less than two days before the exam forfeits the examination fee. A written withdrawal/refund request must reach ANCC before you test and before your testing window ends, and the $140 administrative portion is nonrefundable. These rules were checked November 3, 2026; confirm current charges before making a change.

Which of the three changes do you need?

Prometric handles PMHNP-BC appointment changes, while ANCC handles testing-window reassignment and application withdrawal. ANCC's withdrawal policy requires a written request before you take the examination and before your testing window ends; canceling the appointment alone does not withdraw the application.

Start by matching the change to the right organization. The rules and amounts below were checked November 3, 2026.

A replacement appointment and a replacement testing window solve different problems. Before you move anything, find your authorization notice and appointment confirmation. Write down both the booked exam date and the last date of the authorized window.

How do you change a Prometric appointment?

Use the Prometric ANCC program page, which provides Reschedule/Cancel and Confirm routes. Keep the eligibility ID from your approval email available, and follow the instructions for your existing appointment.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Read your authorization notice to confirm the window in which you may test.
  2. Check the change terms and any charge before completing the transaction.
  3. If rescheduling, choose an available appointment that fits your authorization.
  4. Save the new confirmation and check the date, time, and location. If canceling, retain the cancellation confirmation instead.
  5. Update work leave, travel arrangements, and your study calendar after you have confirmed the appointment status.

The handbook warns that vendor charges may apply. A complete fee table for ordinary certification-exam changes was not verified, so do not assume a change is free or use a fee schedule for a different ANCC product. Check the amount through the official change route before committing.

If you are postponing for preparation, identify the work the extra time will cover. Use the PMHNP-BC overview of what each domain tests to name the topics, then try the 20 free PMHNP-BC practice questions to choose a starting point. When can ANCC reassign your testing window?

ANCC's handbook describes a one-time $100 reassignment to another 120-day testing window, checked November 3, 2026. The new window must begin less than six months after the original window expires. That is a new 120-day window, not permission to test on any date throughout those six months.

Contact ANCC about this route when your intended appointment would fall outside the window in your authorization. Do not assume that canceling with Prometric starts another window or that paying an ordinary appointment-change charge extends your eligibility.

Before requesting reassignment, ask ANCC to confirm:

  • Whether the one-time option remains available for your application.
  • The start and end dates of the replacement window.
  • How to pay the $100 charge and when you can schedule under the new authorization.
  • What to do about any appointment still booked in the original window.

If you do not test in the second window, the handbook requires a new application, satisfaction of eligibility requirements, and payment of the applicable fees. Plan the replacement window around time you can actually protect for study and testing. The PMHNP-BC application timeline explains how authorization fits into the wider process.

Use the free PMHNP-BC study plan to distribute the remaining topics over your revised calendar. For short recall sessions between longer study blocks, 560 flashcards are planned for launch as part of full PMHNP-BC prep.

How does application withdrawal and a refund work?

ANCC's withdrawal policy requires a written withdrawal/refund request to reach ANCC before you take the exam and before your testing window ends. The policy lists customerservice@ana.org as the contact. Check the current withdrawal instructions before sending the request.

The administrative portion is nonrefundable. ANCC's PMHNP-BC certification page lists that portion as $140, checked November 3, 2026. The refundable balance therefore depends on what you actually paid and whether the withdrawal conditions are satisfied.

For example, using the current $395 nonmember initial fee:

$395 paid − $140 nonrefundable administrative portion = $255 remaining.

This illustrates the balance after the administrative deduction; it is not a promise of a $255 payment in every cancellation situation. A discounted initial fee produces a different balance, and a late appointment cancellation has a separate forfeiture rule. Consult the PMHNP-BC fee and discount guide if you need to identify the initial fee category.

If you have a booked appointment, address its cancellation with Prometric as well as the application withdrawal with ANCC. Keep both records. An appointment cancellation confirmation does not establish that ANCC has received or approved a withdrawal/refund request.

What happens close to the appointment or after expiry?

The ANCC handbook states that canceling less than two days before the examination forfeits the examination fee, checked November 3, 2026. Other vendor charges may apply. If your appointment is close, contact the official scheduling service promptly and confirm the consequences for your specific booking before relying on a refund calculation.

Keep these two deadlines separate:

  • Time before the appointment affects the cancellation consequences.
  • The testing-window end date, together with whether you have tested, controls the timing requirement in ANCC's withdrawal policy.

A future appointment date does not by itself establish refund eligibility, and a timely withdrawal request should not be treated as a waiver of the appointment's change rules. The evidence reviewed does not establish a post-test or post-expiry refund entitlement. Ask ANCC about your circumstances rather than assuming the ordinary withdrawal route still applies.

For window reassignment, do not read the rule about when the second window may begin as permission to ignore an existing appointment. Resolve the appointment and authorization separately, and retain written confirmation of each change.

What should you confirm before making the change?

Make one short record containing your current window end date, appointment details, intended change, quoted charges, and the confirmations you receive. Then use the matching route: Prometric for the appointment, ANCC for the window, or ANCC's written withdrawal process for the application and refund request.

If you still plan to test, translate the new time into concrete study tasks. Revisit the five-domain PMHNP-BC content overview and write down the specific topics you will review before the new date. A longer calendar is useful only when you can assign work to it.

When planning a full-length practice session, a 175-question mock exam is planned for launch in full PMHNP-BC prep. Keep that preparation choice separate from the immediate administrative task: confirm the current rules, complete the correct change, and save the resulting record.
