ATI TEAS Online at Home: Remote Testing Requirements and What to Expect
Prepare for an ATI-proctored remote TEAS exam and distinguish ATI's setup from institution-proctored online testing.
Short answer
For an ATI-proctored TEAS online at home exam, use the device, browser, camera, microphone, internet, identification, room, and scratch-work setup in ATI's current remote instructions, and complete the required technical check before test day. A school-proctored remote TEAS may use a different platform or check-in process, so follow the institution's appointment instructions.
First identify who is proctoring the exam
“Online ATI TEAS” can describe more than one setup. Separate remote-exam skills practice in Passy from official setup steps by first identifying who controls the appointment:
- TEAS at ATI: the remote appointment is administered through ATI's process.
- institution-proctored remote TEAS: a school or testing institution controls parts of the registration, platform, or check-in process.
Do not mix instructions from the two. Use the appointment confirmation and current help page for the organization administering your exam.
What do you need for a TEAS at ATI remote exam?
ATI's current TEAS at ATI guidance uses Respondus LockDown Browser and requires its system pre-checks. ATI currently supports qualifying Windows or Mac laptops/desktops and iPads; Chromebooks are not supported for this remote setup. You also need a working camera and microphone, stable internet, and a private testing environment.
Before test day:
- use the same computer and network you plan to use.
- run ATI's current technical readiness check.
- install Respondus LockDown Browser with administrator access.
- test the camera, microphone, speakers, and internet connection.
- disable or close applications that conflict with the exam instructions.
- know your ATI account credentials.
- confirm the time zone and login time.
ATI directs candidates to complete the TEAS Assessment Dry Run on the same device. Requirements can change as ATI updates its testing platform, so the current ATI instructions linked above—not a saved social post—are the source to check before the appointment. Once that required check is complete, review one ATI TEAS section in Passy as a separate study task.
How should you prepare the room?
Expect the pre-check to include identity, environment, and facial-detection steps in a quiet, private, well-lit area. Remove:
- phones and smart devices.
- notes and books.
- extra monitors or unapproved electronics.
- papers and writing tools that are not explicitly permitted.
- other people from the testing space.
For the current TEAS at ATI remote setup, ATI permits one blank 8.5 × 11-inch sheet of paper or a desktop dry-erase whiteboard and requires the paper to be destroyed after the exam. Follow any updated appointment instruction if that rule changes.
What identification is required?
Have the valid government-issued photo ID required by ATI ready at check-in. Confirm that the name matches your registration and that the ID is not expired.
If your school administers the exam remotely, it may communicate additional identity or check-in requirements. Resolve a mismatch before the testing date rather than expecting the remote proctor to override the policy.
Is a calculator provided online?
Yes. ATI says online TEAS exams include a calculator in the testing interface. Do not use a phone, personal calculator, second device, or other unapproved tool.
Practice with the assumption that you must still select the equation, proportion, or conversion. See ATI TEAS Math formulas and topics for preparation guidance, and target any repeated setup error in Passy before adding speed.
What happens during check-in?
ATI recommends logging in 30 minutes early. Its current Quickstart Guide states that a candidate who has not begun within the 30-minute grace period after the scheduled start cannot test and will not receive a refund or reschedule. The check-in process can include:
- identity verification.
- camera and microphone confirmation.
- a room or workspace scan.
- review of permitted and prohibited items.
- connection to the proctor.
- final instructions before the timed exam begins.
Do not start a system update immediately before login. Connect power, reduce network competition in the household where possible, and keep the support information from the confirmation available outside the cleared workspace. Headphones are not allowed unless ATI has approved an accommodation.
What if the technology fails?
Follow the proctor or ATI support instructions immediately. Note the time and the message shown, but do not use prohibited devices inside the testing space unless the proctor directs you.
The rescheduling or incident outcome depends on what happened and the administrator's policy. This guide cannot promise that a disconnected session will be reset or refunded.
How is school-proctored remote testing different?
A school may use different scheduling steps, software, technical support, room checks, and score-release restrictions. Even when the assessment content is ATI TEAS Version 7, administration procedures can differ.
Ask the institution:
- which device and operating systems are accepted.
- which browser or secure testing application is required.
- when to log in.
- how scratch work is handled.
- whom to contact during a technical problem.
- when the score becomes visible.
Run the remote check-in prep
Open your appointment confirmation and the current ATI remote-testing instructions. Run the technical check on the actual device and network, then prepare the room and ID. Use the ATI TEAS exam-day checklist for the remaining timing and calculator details. After the official dry run, test ATI TEAS section timing in Passy without confusing the rehearsal with the platform check.
