AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam Cost: The $100 Fee, Retakes, Vouchers and Free Official Prep

CLF-C02 costs 100 USD per attempt plus any taxes, with set prices in euros, yen, won, yuan, Australian dollars and rupees. See what a retake or a missed appointment costs, which discounts are official, why the 50% voucher can't cover your first AWS exam, and what AWS prep is free.

Short answer

The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam (CLF-C02) costs 100 USD per attempt, plus any applicable taxes, as checked on October 27, 2026. AWS also sets local prices, such as €85, ¥15,000 or ₹8,553 (rupees only through Pearson's voucher store). Every retake costs the full fee again. The 50% discount voucher only arrives after you earn an AWS Certification, so it can't pay for CLF-C02 if this is your first AWS exam. AWS's 20-question practice set and its Cloud Practitioner Essentials course are free on Skill Builder.

AWS lists the Cloud Practitioner exam at 100 USD on its certification page, and its Before Testing page adds that applicable taxes may apply and that each price covers one exam attempt. All prices in this guide were checked on October 27, 2026.

CLF-C02 price in your currency

AWS sets fixed Foundational-level prices in several currencies:

CurrencyCLF-C02 price
US dollar$100
Euro€85
Australian dollar$150
Japanese yen¥15,000
Korean won₩131,525
Chinese yuan¥704
Indian rupee₹8,553 (Pearson Mindhub voucher store only)

Rupee pricing applies only to voucher purchases on Pearson's Mindhub store. AWS updates these local prices at least once a year, and it can change exchange rates more often with at least 30 days' notice. AWS's pages name different months for the yearly update (April in one FAQ answer, May on the Before Testing page), so check the current table before you pay. If you already paid by card and reschedule after a rate change, you don't pay the difference.

At checkout, Pearson VUE accepts Visa, American Express, Mastercard and JCB, or a voucher code.

What CLF-C02 costs when plans change

The fee is simple; the rules around it are where money gets lost. From the Before Testing page and AWS's FAQ:

SituationCost
Cancel more than 24 hours before the appointmentRefund of the fee you paid
Reschedule more than 24 hours beforeNo fee; each appointment can be rescheduled only twice
Cancel or reschedule within 24 hoursNot possible; the full fee is charged and not refunded
Miss the appointmentFee forfeited; you can register again 24 hours after the missed time
Illness or emergency, with documentationPearson VUE can waive the fee and let you reschedule
Paid with a voucherVoucher expiration dates can't be extended, so check yours before you move the date

A missed appointment does not count as a failed attempt, but it does cost the full fee.

The cost of a CLF-C02 retake

AWS's After Testing page sets the retake rules: wait 14 calendar days after a failed attempt, no limit on attempts, and "you must pay the full registration fee for each exam attempt." A second attempt costs another 100 USD.

The CLF-C02 retake guide covers what to change before you pay for it.

The 50% voucher: real, but not for your first AWS exam

AWS's benefits page offers certified individuals "a 50% discount voucher to apply toward recertification or any other exam," and the FAQ says it appears in the Benefits section of your AWS Certification Account. Three limits are easy to miss:

  • You must already be certified. Benefits appear within five business days after you pass. If CLF-C02 is your first AWS exam, or you are retaking it after a fail, you have no voucher unless you already hold another AWS Certification.
  • It's a percentage of the current price. AWS says a 50% voucher is worth 50% of the exam price at the time of purchase.
  • Its terms live in your account. The AWS pages checked for this guide don't say how long the voucher lasts, so check its details in your account before you plan around it.

After you pass, that voucher makes your next exam cheaper: half of a 150 USD Associate exam is 75 USD (Passy's arithmetic), and passing an Associate exam also renews Cloud Practitioner.

Official ways to pay less for CLF-C02

These are the routes AWS itself documents:

  • GI Bill reimbursement (U.S. veterans). AWS's FAQ says veterans covered under a GI Bill with an education provision can ask Veterans Affairs to reimburse AWS Certification exam fees. You must buy the exam through your AWS Certification Account and submit the VA application. Training fees are not eligible.
  • Employer or team vouchers. Organizations can buy exam vouchers from Pearson VUE or Xvoucher, which AWS names as authorized sellers. A voucher is single-use.
  • The 2026 AI Upskilling Campaign, for people already in it. Under AWS's campaign terms, candidates aged 18 or older who took AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) with the campaign code by September 30, 2026, and passed it, can take CLF-C02 free if they complete it by November 30, 2026, 11:59 p.m. local time at a test center or 11:59 p.m. U.S. Central time online. Registration for that offer has closed. If it applies to you, schedule before the deadline.
  • Promotions. In its section for AWS Partners, AWS's FAQ says AWS regularly offers discounted vouchers through certification challenge promotions. Treat any code you find elsewhere as unverified until AWS or Pearson VUE confirms it.

Free and paid CLF-C02 prep from AWS

AWS's exam preparation page and the Skill Builder pages for CLF-C02 split official prep this way:

ResourceAccessWhat it is
Official Practice Question SetFree20 exam-style questions with feedback; repeatable, same questions in a new order
AWS Cloud Practitioner EssentialsFreeDigital course, 12 hours 45 minutes
Exam Prep courses and AWS Cloud QuestFree versions, per AWSTopic reviews and a role-playing learning game
Official PretestSubscription65 questions in 90 minutes; percentage and per-domain counts
Official Practice ExamSubscription65 questions in 90 minutes with scaled, pass-or-fail scoring

Skill Builder listed its subscription at $29 a month or $449 a year on the CLF-C02 practice exam page, and AWS says the individual subscription gives access to all available resources.

Third-party prep is a separate decision. If you are weighing it, you can compare the free CLF-C02 tools with the planned full prep side by side; Passy's free practice questions, study planner and retake planner stay free either way.

Sample CLF-C02 budgets

Passy's arithmetic, in USD before taxes:

PlanExam feesOfficial subscriptionTotal
First attempt with free AWS prep only$100$0$100
First attempt plus one month of Skill Builder$100$29$129
Two attempts with free prep only$200$0$200
Two attempts plus one month of Skill Builder$200$29$229

The first row is the cheapest outcome, and the third shows what a fail adds. Paid practice earns its cost only if it lowers the chance of a second 100 USD fee. If you buy one month of Skill Builder, start it in your final weeks so it covers both full-length tests.

Full Passy prep for CLF-C02 isn't on sale yet. The planned one-time CLF-C02 prices of $19.99, $34.99 and $49.99 are for 30, 90 or 180 days with no auto-renewal.

Your next step on CLF-C02 costs

Pick a test date you can keep, since rescheduling within 24 hours costs the whole fee. The CLF-C02 scheduling guide walks through registration, and the free CLF-C02 study planner builds the weeks before it.

When your date is set, you can see what each planned access period for CLF-C02 prep includes and choose the one that ends after test day.
