CAPM Practice Tests: PMI's Sample Questions, Paid Practice Exams and What a Score Tells You

PMI gives away five CAPM sample questions and sells two longer practice products: a 150-question CAPM Practice Exam and a CAPM edition of PMI Study Hall. Everything else, including Passy's free set, comes from third parties and is only as good as how closely it follows the current outline. Whatever you use, a practice percentage is a training signal, not a forecast: PMI publishes no passing percentage for the CAPM, so no practice score can be converted into a pass.

The PDU note matters for planning: PMI's CCR Handbook says activities completed before you earn a certification don't count as PDUs, so the Practice Exam's 3 PDUs mean nothing to a candidate who hasn't passed yet.

Free CAPM practice beyond PMI's five questions

Passy's 20 free CAPM practice questions are original items split across the four domains roughly by weight (7 Fundamentals, 3 Predictive, 4 Agile, 6 Business Analysis), each with an explanation. They are single-answer questions with four options, so they don't include the drag-and-drop, hot spot, animation or comic strip styles the real exam can use, and 20 items can't predict a result.

Other free sets, from prep sites, flashcard apps and forums, vary widely. The quickest quality check is whether a bank was written for the current exam. PMI's 2023 Exam Update FAQ says the exam before July 25, 2023 tested PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition concepts, while the current one adds agile and business analysis. Signs that a bank may predate that change, as an editorial checklist from Passy rather than a PMI list:

What a CAPM practice score can and can't tell you

PMI's Certification Handbook (revised June 2026) says passing scores come from psychometric analysis against the standard for a qualified person in the role, and it publishes no percentage. Even PMI's own Study Hall features guide, written for the PMP edition, says Study Hall scores cannot predict performance on the official exam. A practice percentage depends on that bank's difficulty and mix, so 70% on one set and 70% on another aren't the same achievement.

What a practice score can tell you, used carefully:

• Your trend. The same kind of set, under the same conditions, a week or two apart
• Your balance. Which domain lags, weighted by its share: a gap in Fundamentals (36%) costs more questions than one in Predictive (17%)
• Your pace. Whether you finish 150 questions in 3 hours with time to settle flags before question 75
• Your error types. Whether misses come from unknown terms, misread approaches, distractors or arithmetic

Two habits inflate scores without improving readiness: retaking the same items until you remember the answers, and practicing untimed only. Fresh items and timed sets give a more honest reading.

Exam dumps and "real CAPM questions" PDFs

Google's search suggestions for the CAPM include "exam questions and answers PDF." Sources that claim to sell real or recalled exam questions put you at risk, and PMI's handbook explains why:

• Exam content is PMI's property. The exam and all test-related materials remain PMI's sole and exclusive property and are confidential.
• Sharing questions breaks your agreement. Discussing exam questions after the test is a potential violation of the Certification Application/Renewal Agreement you accept when you apply, with consequences up to revocation of the certification or permanent suspension from PMI exams.
• PMI looks for it. PMI uses third-party security vendors and forensic analysis, reviews sessions and results, and can invalidate scores or revoke a certification. The handbook names "having access to test questions before the exam" among the behaviors candidates are required to report to PMI.

There is also a study reason to stay away: memorized answers don't transfer to new stems, and the CAPM rewards reasoning about situations. PMI's own five sample questions are published for practice and are fine to use.

A practice set is only as useful as what you do with the misses. A simple log, with fictional entries as examples:
