How to Register for the EPPP: Board Approval, Clarus, Pearson VUE and Every Fee
Registering for the EPPP starts with your licensing board, not ASPPB. Follow the steps from board approval to a Pearson VUE seat, and see every fee, from the $691.88 Part 1 attempt to rescheduling, sample exams and score transfers.
Short answer
You can't register for the EPPP directly. First apply for licensure with your state, provincial or territorial board. Once it approves you, the board enters you into ASPPB's Clarus portal, you get an email to set up your account, request any accommodations, pay, and then schedule at a Pearson VUE test center. Part 1 costs $600 plus a $91.88 sitting fee, $691.88 per attempt, and ASPPB refunds nothing. After paying you must test within 12 months, or sooner if your board's testing window ends first.
The EPPP registration path in seven steps
ASPPB's EPPP Candidate Handbook (September 2026) and its prep checklist set out the order. It can't be rearranged: you can't pay or schedule until your board has approved you.
- Apply for licensure with your board. The licensing authority in the state, province or territory where you want to practice reviews your credentials against its law and decides whether you may sit for the EPPP. Eligibility questions, including when you can test, go to the board. The EPPP overview lists what to ask.
- Watch for the Clarus email. Once approved, the board enters your details and authorization into Clarus, ASPPB's registration portal since September 29, 2026. Clarus emails you a link to set your password. Log in and check the pre-filled information; if your name or email is wrong, use the "Request [Email/Name] Change" links, which go to your board.
- Make your name match your ID. Your first and last name in Clarus must match both IDs you'll show at the test center. The middle name isn't checked.
- Request accommodations now, if you need them. Check the "Exam Accommodations" box during registration and send your documentation to your board. Accommodations can't be added after an exam is scheduled.
- Read and attest. Before scheduling you confirm you've read the handbook, the Candidate Acknowledgement Statement, Pearson VUE's ID policy, ASPPB's rescheduling and cancellation policy, and Pearson's candidate rules agreement.
- Pay in Clarus. The exam fee and the Pearson VUE sitting fee are paid together by American Express, Visa, Mastercard or Discover. The receipt is in the Clarus Digital Wallet.
- Schedule with Pearson VUE. Follow the link from Clarus, or call Pearson VUE at 800-513-6910 (weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern). You'll get a confirmation email with your appointment, order number, registration ID and ASPPB candidate ID; the checklist says to call Pearson VUE if it hasn't arrived within 24 hours.
Some ASPPB web pages, including Registration and Fees, still mention the old Certemy portal. The handbook's cover is explicit that Clarus replaced it and Certemy is no longer accessible.
What EPPP registration costs
All amounts are in US dollars, from the handbook's fee summary and ASPPB's fee, sample-exam and score-transfer pages, as checked on October 27, 2026.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Licensure application | Set by your board | Separate from every EPPP fee |
| EPPP Part 1 exam fee | $600 | Per sitting, paid to ASPPB in Clarus |
| Pearson VUE sitting fee | $91.88 | Per sitting, for Part 1 or Part 2 |
| One Part 1 attempt | $691.88 | Exam fee plus sitting fee |
| EPPP Part 2 exam fee | $450 | Only if your jurisdiction requires Part 2, plus the sitting fee |
| Rescheduling or cancelling under 31 days but more than 24 hours ahead | $87.50 plus tax | Paid to Pearson VUE; a cancellation still isn't refunded |
| No-show, or a change within 24 hours | All fees forfeited | Exam fee and sitting fee |
| Online sample exam (SEPPPO) | $30 plus tax | Per attempt, optional |
| Test-center sample exam (SEPPP) | $82.50 plus tax | Per attempt, optional |
| Score transfer to another board | $85 standard, $115 expedited | Per jurisdiction; your first board's report is included in the exam fee |
| Self-score transfer | $25 | An unofficial report |
ASPPB's line on refunds is blunt: they "are not given for any reason." The handbook and checklist both advise not paying until you're ready to sit, because paying starts your clock and the money can't come back.
Two 2027–2028 prices are already announced. First-time candidates who choose the March–April 2027 beta test of the integrated EPPP, where their board takes part, pay $100 plus the sitting fee instead of the Part 1 price, and from April 1, 2028 the integrated EPPP's exam fee will be $650. The EPPP 2027 guide explains who can take the beta.
Your EPPP testing window and the 12-month clock
Two limits run at once, and the earlier one wins:
- ASPPB's limit: once you pay the exam fee, you must sit within the following 12 months.
- Your board's limit: the board sets a testing window, and if its end date comes before the 12-month mark, that date controls.
Your window's start and end dates are on your Clarus dashboard. The Authorization to Test covers one appointment only; each new attempt needs a new approval from the board. That matters if you don't pass: the retake guide explains the second approval and the four-attempts-in-12-months cap.
A long window is also a long study runway. If your board approves you months ahead, the planned 180-day EPPP access option is built for that kind of horizon, though checkout isn't open yet.
Rescheduling the EPPP without losing money
Pearson VUE charges by how close you are to the appointment's start time:
| When you change | Cost under the September 2026 handbook |
|---|---|
| More than 31 days before the start time | No charge |
| Less than 31 days but more than 24 hours before | $87.50 plus tax, to reschedule or cancel |
| Within 24 hours, or not showing up | You forfeit the exam fee and the sitting fee |
The handbook's own example: for a May 29 appointment at 8:00 a.m., reschedule before 8:00 a.m. on April 28 to pay nothing. ASPPB's Registration and Fees page, though, still says the free period ends at 32 calendar days. Until the two agree, a practical rule is to make changes at least 32 days out.
Other rules worth knowing before you book:
- Cancelling isn't a refund. You must rebook within your testing window.
- A no-show or late arrival costs everything. You lose both fees and the Authorization to Test, and you can't schedule again until you re-register with your board and pay again. ASPPB asks you to arrive 30 minutes early.
- Phone changes happen on weekdays only. The Pearson VUE line is closed on weekends; the accommodations line is 800-466-0450.
Where you can sit for the EPPP
You can test at any authorized Pearson VUE center in ASPPB's network, whatever jurisdiction you're applying to, with one restriction: US candidates must test at a US center (US territories included) and Canadian candidates at a Canadian center. The handbook warns that EPPP time slots are limited because centers serve many professions, so the earlier you schedule, the better your choice of date and place. While you wait for an appointment, practice by content domain in full EPPP prep, planned for launch, or start with the 20 free EPPP practice questions.
EPPP accommodations take extra lead time
If you have a documented disability or impairment, ASPPB's accommodations page and the handbook describe a separate track:
- Check the accommodations box in Clarus during registration.
- Send supporting documentation to your board, which approves or denies the request in Clarus.
- If approved, ASPPB does a final review and Pearson VUE builds an implementation plan, which the handbook says can take up to 10 to 15 business days.
You can't schedule either part of the EPPP until that process is complete, so start it as early as your board allows.
Before you pay for the EPPP
Check three things: your testing window in Clarus, your realistic study timeline, and the reschedule cutoff for the date you're eyeing. If your timeline depends on a prep course, see what full EPPP prep will include once checkout opens before you commit to a date. Then read the EPPP format guide for the two-ID rule and the check-in steps, so nothing on test day forfeits your $691.88.
