LCSW Exam Passing Score: How Many Questions Do You Need Correct?

The range is the official answer

ASWB’s scoring page says the passing score generally ranges from 66 to 78 correct answers out of 110 scored questions. Psychometricians set the number for each form so candidates face the same standard. An easier form can require more correct answers. A harder form can require fewer. No one is supposed to gain or lose because of the version they drew. Rehearse the decision the stem asked for in Passy → rather than chasing a percentage a prep site invented.

Your unofficial result shows how many questions you needed on your form and how many you answered correctly. A failing report also breaks results out by content area. That breakdown is more useful than converting 66 or 78 into a percent.

What people incorrectly calculate

“You need 70%.” Seventy percent of 110 is 77, which sits inside the range and is not the rule. Sixty-six is about 60% of 110. Seventy-eight is about 71%. The width of the range is the point.

“Divide by 122.” How many questions are on the exam? is 122 total. Only 110 are scored. The pretest items never enter the cut.

“A scaled score of 70.” ASWB reports pass/fail and the raw comparison for your form. Do not import a scaled-score myth from another credential.

After you see a number

If you pass, the score is valid for that exam category across jurisdictions that use it. The license is still your board’s decision. Education, supervision, and fees are not waived by a pass.
