NCLEX-PN Exam Day: What to Bring and What to Expect
Bring one acceptable government-issued physical ID whose first and last names match your NCLEX-PN registration. The five-hour clock includes optional scheduled breaks. Names that do not match mean you are turned away and repay.
Short answer
On NCLEX-PN exam day you present one acceptable form of identification: government-issued, non-expired, physical (not digital), with a recent photograph and a name in Roman characters that matches the first and last names you registered. Domestic examples include a passport or driver’s license. International centers, including Puerto Rico, require a passport book or card. The five-hour limit includes optional scheduled breaks; the clock does not stop.
Names must match or you repay
The Candidate Bulletin is strict: identification must match exactly the first and last names used at registration. If it does not, you are turned away and must reregister and pay another examination fee (and forfeit an international scheduling fee if you paid one). Finish remaining PN review before you travel, not after a name mismatch.
Acceptable ID is:
- Government-issued
- Non-expired
- Physical (not a phone wallet image as the primary ID)
- Name in Roman characters
- Recent photograph
- Signature (or a secondary ID that supplies the signature)
Domestic examples: passport book or card, driver’s license, provincial/territorial or state ID, permanent residence card, military ID. International test centers, including Puerto Rico, require a passport book or card.
Clipped, perforated, cracked, or altered IDs are treated as expired. If the primary ID lacks a signature but meets other rules, bring a secondary ID whose signature matches the registered names.
The sitting itself
You have up to five hours, including the intro and all breaks. Scheduled optional breaks appear around two hours and three and a half hours. How long is the NCLEX-PN? is the clock page. Item count is 85–150 (how many questions).
You must leave the room for breaks. Pearson security (palm vein, photo, etc.) is described in the current bulletin—follow staff instructions rather than a blog checklist from another year.
Do not bring unauthorized notes, devices, or outerwear into the room beyond what the current bulletin allows. When in doubt, the bulletin wins.
Timing around the ATT
You cannot sit without a valid ATT. ATT and registration are the booking path. Arrive with time for check-in; the bulletin’s late/no-show rules forfeit the fee.
If the date is set, keep mixed LPN/VN practice in the remaining days.
Sleep is part of exam-day performance even though it is not a Client Need.
Use a short set the day before rather than a new content dump.

Repair one recurring miss instead of cramming a new book in the hotel.
