Security+ Passing Score: What 750 Means
750 is the SY0-701 passing score on a scale from 100 to 900. It is not a percent, and a practice score is not that scale.
Short answer
SY0-701 passes at 750 on a scale of 100 to 900. CompTIA uses a scaled score. 750 is not 83 percent, and it is not a published number of correct answers. A percentage on a Passy practice set uses a different scale, a different set of items, and no performance-based questions, so it cannot be converted into a 750.
750 is a point on a scale
CompTIA’s Security+ V7 page says the passing score is 750 on a scale of 100 to 900. The same figure is in the SY0-701 objectives. The scale has a floor of 100 and a ceiling of 900. Passing is the cut score on that scale.
Dividing 750 by 900 is arithmetic. It is not how CompTIA scores the exam. Do not treat 83% as the rule. Do not treat “75 correct” or “68 correct” as the rule. CompTIA does not publish a raw-score conversion for SY0-701, and items are not equally weighted in a way a candidate can reverse from the score report.
What a practice percentage can tell you
A Passy set scores the share of its own original questions you answered as the keyed choice. That percentage is useful for finding a weak domain. It is not useful for any of the following:

Use a miss as a topic. If you missed the difference between a hash and encryption, study that difference. Do not average it into a fake scaled score.
After the exam
You either meet the cut score or you do not. CompTIA’s retake rules, including the 14-day wait before a third or later attempt, are on the retake page. A version retirement date does not rewrite the score you already earned.
