Taking the SHRM-CP Outside the U.S.: Fees in Dollars, Arabic and Korean Forms, and What Replaces U.S. Law
Outside the U.S., the SHRM-CP is the same exam at the same U.S.-dollar fees, booked at a Prometric center in the same two windows. Here is what does change: deadlines in Eastern Time, translated forms, the missing U.S. law content, OFAC screening, accommodations and recertification.
Short answer
Candidates outside the U.S. take the same SHRM-CP: 134 questions at a Prometric test center, in the same two windows, for the same U.S.-dollar fees, $399 for SHRM members and $499 for nonmembers at standard rates; SHRM's India and Middle East pages show the identical table. Deadlines close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Residents of South Korea and listed Arabic-speaking countries are assigned a translated form unless they ask for English in writing. U.S. Employment Law & Regulations content doesn't appear on international exams, which may ask about universal employment law concepts instead.
Searches for the SHRM-CP in India, the UAE, the Philippines, Pakistan or Canada usually start with price, and the answer is the same everywhere: SHRM sells one exam at one U.S.-dollar fee table. What does change abroad is smaller but easy to miss, from a deadline that falls on a different calendar day to a law area you won't be tested on. Everything below was checked on SHRM's U.S., India and Middle East exam pages and in the 2026 SHRM Certification Handbook on October 27, 2026.
What stays the same for SHRM-CP candidates outside the U.S.
| Feature | Outside the U.S. |
|---|---|
| Exam | The same SHRM-CP: 134 questions, 24 of them unscored, in two sections of up to 110 minutes |
| Delivery | In person at an authorized Prometric test center; no remote option |
| Windows | The same two windows: December 1, 2026, to February 15, 2027, then May through mid-July 2027 (dates not yet published) |
| Fees | The same U.S.-dollar table |
| Scoring | The same 120 to 200 scale, with every pass reported as 200 |
| Pass rates | SHRM publishes global rates only, with no split by country |
| Eligibility | The same rules; the SHRM-CP needs no HR title, degree or experience |
The application steps are the same too, and the SHRM-CP application guide walks through them.
SHRM-CP fees and payment from outside the U.S.
SHRM's India exam page and Middle East exam page show exactly the same fee table and windows as its U.S. page: $350 or $450 at the early-bird rate and $399 or $499 at the standard rate, for members and nonmembers. None of the SHRM pages checked lists a price in rupees, dirhams, pesos or any other local currency.
- Individuals pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express when they apply.
- Organizations buying several seats can also pay by check, money order, ACH or wire transfer, in U.S. currency; the handbook notes that ACH and wire transactions carry their own fees.
- Military pricing is written for U.S. service members, veterans and spouses of U.S. service members.
- Student pricing requires enrollment in an HR degree program. The pages checked don't restrict it by country.
If a local training provider quotes you a price that includes the exam, compare it with SHRM's own table to see what the exam part costs. The SHRM-CP exam cost guide has every extra fee, from rescheduling to retakes, and if you are budgeting in another currency, compare the planned one-time SHRM-CP prep prices, also set in U.S. dollars, before checkout opens.
When the SHRM-CP deadline falls in your time zone
Application deadlines close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. For the current window, the standard deadline is December 24, 2026, when the U.S. East Coast is on Eastern Standard Time (UTC−5). Passy's conversion:
| Location | Local deadline |
|---|---|
| Toronto | December 24, 11:59 p.m. |
| Vancouver | December 24, 9:59 p.m. |
| London | December 25, 4:59 a.m. |
| Lagos | December 25, 5:59 a.m. |
| Riyadh | December 25, 7:59 a.m. |
| Dubai | December 25, 8:59 a.m. |
| Karachi | December 25, 9:59 a.m. |
| Mumbai and New Delhi | December 25, 10:29 a.m. |
| Manila and Singapore | December 25, 12:59 p.m. |
| Seoul | December 25, 1:59 p.m. |
Vancouver is two hours behind Toronto, not three, because British Columbia stays on UTC−7 year-round from November 1, 2026. East of the Americas, the deadline lands on December 25. The safe habit is to treat the date SHRM prints as your local deadline. For the May 2027 window, check the time again once SHRM publishes the dates: in May the U.S. East Coast is on daylight time.
Arabic, Korean or English: which SHRM-CP form you get
SHRM offers translated SHRM-CP forms in Arabic and Korean, at Prometric centers only, and has translated the SHRM BASK into both languages.
- Arabic is assigned to residents of Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the UAE, Western Sahara, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
- Korean is assigned to people living in South Korea.
- English on request. Residents of those countries can take the English version by asking in writing at shrmcertification@shrm.org.
Everyone else takes the English form. SHRM's certification staff say item writers are asked to use language understood by candidates all over the world, including many whose first language isn't English, which is one more reason to take questions at face value rather than hunting for hidden meanings.
What replaces U.S. employment law on international SHRM-CP exams
In a March 2024 article, SHRM's certification staff say that content from one functional area, U.S. Employment Law & Regulations in the Workplace domain, doesn't appear for international examinees. SHRM's Choosing the Right HR Certification page adds that international exams may ask about universal employment law concepts rather than the laws of any particular country or region. Everything else in the BASK remains fair game, as the same article puts it, as it pertains to global HR.
The 2026 SHRM BASK marks the boundary in its glossary. Entries such as ADA, COBRA, FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, OSHA and the WARN Act are labeled "(U.S. examinees only)". The glossary even defines unfair labor practice twice: once as a U.S.-only term under U.S. labor-relations statutes, and once as a violation prohibited under global labor-relations statutes. That second, universal version is the kind of concept an international exam can ask about.
What SHRM doesn't say is how the Workplace domain's 13% weight is filled on international forms, or whether the score report differs. The handbook publishes one set of weights, with no separate version for international forms. A practical approach, which is Passy's suggestion: move the time a U.S. candidate would spend on U.S. statutes to the rest of Workplace and to the global parts of the BASK:
- Managing a Global Workforce: HR structures for global work, immigration and mobility, international assignments and repatriation, offshoring, onshoring and nearshoring.
- Risk Management and Corporate Social Responsibility, the other two Workplace areas.
- Inclusive Mindset's "Operating in a Global Environment" sub-competency, and the cultural models the BASK lists among that competency's key concepts (Hall, Hofstede, Schein, Trompenaars).
- Local-law habits the indicators expect, such as complying with local and country-specific laws in talent acquisition.
The SHRM-CP employment laws guide lists what U.S. candidates study, if you want to see what you are skipping. Study materials work the same way anywhere: planned SHRM-CP prep that runs in any browser, with nothing to install, is meant for that once it launches.
Booking a Prometric center abroad, ID and accommodations
After your Authorization to Test arrives, schedule at prometric.com/shrm, SHRM's preferred method, or call a regional contact center. A few numbers as printed in the handbook's Appendix B:
| Region | Prometric contact center |
|---|---|
| India | +91.124.4147700 |
| Middle East | +31.320.239.530 (Sunday to Thursday) |
| Europe | +31.320.239540 |
| South Korea | +1566.0990 |
| Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries | +603.76283333 |
- ID. You need an unexpired, original, government-issued photo ID with a signature; a passport is one of the handbook's examples. The name must match your Authorization to Test, so enter it on the application exactly as it appears on the ID you will bring, including its spelling or transliteration.
- Name fixes. Minor errors such as a missing hyphen go through the portal at least 10 business days before your appointment. If you don't have an acceptable ID, contact SHRM at least five business days before.
- Accommodations. SHRM accepts requests under the ADA or a comparable non-U.S. provision, made at the time of application. The handbook warns that Prometric may not be able to meet requests outside the U.S. where local operating conditions, laws or customs make them unlawful, impossible or economically unfeasible. Raise any need early.
- Closures. For severe weather or a local emergency, check prometric.com/closures; international candidates can also call their regional number.
OFAC screening for SHRM-CP candidates
As a U.S. organization, SHRM must follow U.S. trade sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The handbook's Appendix C says three groups can't take the exams or recertify: people on a U.S. government sanctions list or working for a listed company, people affiliated with or employed by organizations affiliated with sanctioned governments, and residents of countries where sanctions bar SHRM from providing these services. SHRM's exam page marks Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen as subject to OFAC restrictions, with a prescreening process before applying. The list changes regularly, so check SHRM's online listing before you apply.
Keeping the SHRM-CP from outside the U.S.
Recertification works on the same 60-credit, three-year cycle, with two international notes. The certification handbook says requirements may differ for holders outside the U.S., and OFAC limits apply to recertification as well as to the exam. On the credit side, the SHRM Recertification Handbook counts memberships in HR bodies beyond SHRM, such as Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Canada (CPHR), the Institute for Human Resource Professionals Singapore (IHRP) and other national or international HR membership organizations, at 3 PDCs a year, up to 9. The SHRM-CP recertification guide covers the rest.
Next step for international SHRM-CP candidates
Decide which form you want before you apply: if you live in South Korea or a listed Arabic-speaking country and prefer English, send the written request early. Then try the free SHRM-CP practice questions; items on U.S. law are labeled, so you can see the rest of the exam's style without them. For a full rehearsal later, time a 134-question SHRM-CP practice sitting planned for launch against the real two-section format.
