SHRM-SCP Exam Cost and Registration: What You Pay, Who Pays Less and How to Apply
The SHRM-SCP costs $399 for SHRM members and $499 for nonmembers at standard rates, the same as the SHRM-CP. Here is the fee table, who can pay less (employers, military, eligible students), the current deadlines, and the registration steps that avoid a denied application.
Short answer
As of October 27, 2026, the SHRM-SCP costs the same as the SHRM-CP: $399 for SHRM members and $499 for nonmembers at the standard rate, or $350 and $450 at the early-bird rate. Military rates are $369 and $469 standard. Student rates exist, but a student must meet the full SCP eligibility rules. For the December 1, 2026, to February 15, 2027, window, early-bird pricing has closed and standard applications close December 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. You apply at shrm.org, receive an Authorization to Test, then book a Prometric seat.
The SHRM-SCP and the SHRM-CP share one fee table, so for SCP candidates the price question is less about the numbers than about who pays: you, your employer through SHRM's volume program, or a military funding source. Registration has one SCP-specific risk, too: an application that doesn't meet the SCP's experience rule is denied and the fees are kept. Figures below come from SHRM's exam details page and the 2026 SHRM Certification Handbook, checked on October 27, 2026.
SHRM-SCP exam fees in 2026
| Rate | SHRM member | Nonmember |
|---|---|---|
| Early bird | $350 | $450 |
| Standard | $399 | $499 |
| Military early bird | $320 | $420 |
| Military standard | $369 | $469 |
| Student early bird | $150 | $250 |
| Student standard | $199 | $299 |
- Included in every rate: a $50 nonrefundable application fee. Standard rates also include a $49 nonrefundable standard deadline fee, which is the whole difference between early-bird and standard prices.
- Member pricing applies only if you are a SHRM member when you submit the application.
- Not included: study materials, prep classes, travel, and any retest, transfer or cancellation fees.
Extras can add up: $45 or $60 to Prometric to reschedule, $150 to transfer to the next window, and $100 for a results review if you don't pass. The SHRM-CP exam cost guide lists every extra fee and refund rule; they are the same for the SCP. Prep is a separate cost you control: full SHRM-SCP prep isn't on sale yet, but you can see what $19.99, $34.99 or $49.99 would cover in planned SHRM-SCP prep.
Who can pay less for the SHRM-SCP
Employers buying several seats
SHRM's volume program lets organizations buy five or more seats in advance. The handbook's tiers:
| Seats bought | Price per exam |
|---|---|
| 5 to 9 | $374 |
| 10 to 19 | $349 |
| 20 to 39 | $324 |
| 40 to 74 | $299 |
| 75 to 149 | $274 |
| 150 or more | $249 |
The exam details page shows the first four tiers and labels the fourth "40-47"; the handbook says 40 to 74. Organizations can pay by check, money order, ACH or wire transfer, and arrange terms through CorporateCertifications@shrm.org. Volume pricing doesn't apply to student applicants. If your employer funds professional development, the program is worth raising when colleagues are certifying in the same window.
Military candidates
SHRM's Eligibility Criteria page extends military pricing to U.S. service members (active duty, retired and veterans, including Guard and Reserve) who served in HR, personnel management, recruiting or career counseling; to U.S. military personnel in leadership roles with HR-related duties in any of the 14 BASK functional areas; and to spouses of U.S. service members in or entering HR. It points to each service's Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL) site and to the Post-9/11 GI Bill for funding.
Students who already qualify
Student pricing requires enrollment in an HR degree program, and SHRM says students seeking the SHRM-SCP must meet the SCP criteria. In practice that fits an HR leader with three strategic years who is also enrolled in an HR degree, not a student starting out.
Early-bird applicants and SHRM members
- Early bird saves $49. For 2026, early-bird periods ran January 5 to April 30 for the May window and June 3 to August 31 for the December window. SHRM hadn't published 2027 dates as of October 27, 2026.
- Membership saves $100 on the exam, but SHRM's membership page lists Professional membership at $299 a year. On the exam alone, joining costs $199 more than paying the nonmember rate. Members also pay less to recertify ($165 instead of $210), and membership earns professional development credits; the SHRM-SCP recertification guide explains how many.
The SHRM pages checked for this guide list no promo codes; the discounts above are the published ones.
SHRM-SCP deadlines for the current window
| Window | Early-bird applications | Standard applications | Testing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Second 2026 window | June 3 – Aug. 31, 2026 (closed) | Sept. 1 – Dec. 24, 2026 | Dec. 1, 2026 – Feb. 15, 2027 |
| First 2027 window | Not published | Not published | May through mid-July, per the handbook's pattern |
Deadlines close at 11:59 p.m. ET, and SHRM says you must apply during the application period tied to the window you want. The December 24 deadline falls after the window opens, so applying late can leave you booking in January for a window that ends February 15. The handbook says that if you delay scheduling and can't find an appointment, all fees are forfeited.
Registering for the SHRM-SCP step by step
- Check your eligibility first. The handbook lists failure to meet the minimum requirements as the first reason for denying an application, and denials forfeit all fees. The SHRM-SCP eligibility guide shows how SHRM counts strategic years.
- Open the application during an open period at shrm.org/certification (Apply Now). Members sign in with the same single sign-on email they use for membership.
- Select the SHRM-SCP and note the window dates you are buying.
- Complete the application with your eligibility, job and demographic information. SHRM says all accommodation requests must be made here, at the time of application.
- Accept the terms: the handbook, the Candidate Agreement and the refund policy.
- Pay. Individuals pay by Visa, Mastercard or American Express when they apply.
- Watch for your Authorization to Test (ATT). SHRM emails it within 10 business days of processed payment, later if your application is selected for eligibility review. A review gives you 10 business days to send documentation.
- Book with Prometric at prometric.com/shrm or 888.736.0134, searching a date range of at least 7 to 10 days for more availability.
ID, name-matching, accommodation and booking rules are the same as for the CP; the SHRM-CP application guide covers them in detail.
Switching between SHRM-SCP and SHRM-CP after you apply
The handbook allows one exam level change per application, requested by email to shrmcertification@shrm.org at least 20 business days before your scheduled exam. If you already booked, you cancel with Prometric first, and its cancellation fee may apply. A move from the CP to the SCP requires proof that you meet the SCP rules; SHRM then issues a new ATT. The handbook's fee table lists no SHRM charge for a level change.

Passy's arithmetic from SHRM's published prices, before study materials and travel:
| Scenario | Exam and related fees | Total |

| Joins SHRM to apply, standard rate | $399 + $299 membership | $698 |
| Seat bought by an employer ordering 5 to 9 | $374 | $374 |
| Military nonmember, standard rate | $469 | $469 |
| Nonmember, standard, not passing and retaking in the next window | $499 + $499 | $998 |
| Recertifying three years later with PDCs, nonmember | $210 | $210 |
A retake is a new application at the full fee, which makes the retake line the one to plan against. Before paying for a seat, you can rehearse all 134 questions with the planned timed SHRM-SCP mock exam once full prep launches.
Your next step for the SHRM-SCP
Confirm your eligibility, then choose a window you can study for: the SHRM-SCP study plan shows how SHRM's 80 to 120 hours fit the current dates. The free SHRM-SCP practice questions are a no-cost first check of where you stand.
