It is estimated at 50 scored items in about 60 minutes when administered. Train those reading jobs. Do not treat unofficial downloaded passages as live HESI content.

Elsevier’s Reading Comprehension exam is built on health-related scenarios. The published skills are identifying main ideas, understanding passages and words in context, and making logical inferences. Practice HESI A2 inference and main-idea items in Passy by pointing to a sentence that supports the answer.
If you “know” a clinic fact the paragraph never stated, you are off the exam’s job.
Four reading moves that match the official description
Main idea. What could the paragraph not delete without collapsing? Details decorate; they do not replace the claim.
Words in context. A familiar word may take a tighter meaning in a healthcare sentence. That is adjacent to, not identical with, the Vocabulary exam.
Passage comprehension. Sequence, cause, and who is required to do what. Return to the line. Do not summarize from memory after one skim.
Logical inference. An inference is supported but not spelled out. “Arrive 15 minutes early” supports planning extra time. It does not, by itself, prove that late arrivals are refused.
Passy’s original clinic-notice item is a teaching example of stated fact versus inference. It is not a recalled HESI passage.
Pacing on a longer English exam
Elsevier estimates about 60 minutes for 50 scored reading items when that exam is given—longer than Grammar or Vocabulary’s 50-minute estimates. Still, one dense paragraph can steal the clock. If the interface allows review, flag and move rather than rereading a paragraph four times.

What not to study as “HESI reading”
Leaked PDFs. Entire NCLEX cases. Speed-reading gimmicks that skip evidence. Author’s-tone drills that Elsevier’s public description does not name as a separate skill—tone may appear in some items, but Passy will not invent an official sub-blueprint.
If reading is the weak assigned exam, repair those evidence habits in Passy.
