Can You Take the PTCB Exam Online in 2026?

The current PTCE is taken in person at Pearson test centers. Pearson’s PTCB page points OnVUE information to all exams except the PTCE. Other PTCB credentials may still offer online testing. Recheck live product pages.

Short answer

For the PTCE—the exam for PTCB CPhT certification—current PTCB and Pearson product pages describe in-person testing at Pearson test centers. Pearson’s PTCB page currently labels OnVUE online testing information as applying to all exams except the PTCE. Older PTCB news about online PTCE delivery does not override those live pages. You still apply and schedule online. You take this exam at a center. Other PTCB credential exams may still offer OnVUE. Recheck PTCB and Pearson before you book.

The PTCE is currently an in-person Pearson appointment

PTCB’s CPhT page says the PTCE is administered in person at more than 1,400 Pearson test centers, including more than 100 military bases. Exam-day copy on the same page says that when you schedule, you will take the exam at a Pearson test center under a live proctor. Keep PTCE prep moving in Passy toward that center date, not toward a home-proctor setup the current PTCE page does not offer.

Pearson’s PTCB page, last updated 8 September 2026 in the version Passy checked, includes a resource labeled OnVUE online testing information (for all exams except PTCE). That exception is the current logistics signal. It is stronger than a 2020 or 2024 news post about online expansion.

Apply online. Sit in a center.

Candidates still create a PTCB Account and schedule through Pearson’s online tools. “Online” in that sense means the application and booking, not at-home PTCE delivery. How to apply and schedule is that sequence.

PTCB exam day is the in-person check-in. How long is the PTCB exam? is the 110-minute clock plus the two-hour appointment.

Other PTCB credentials are a different product

PTCB offers additional certifications and assessment-based certificates. Pearson’s exception language implies OnVUE may still be in play for those other exams. Do not copy a CSPT or certificate-program delivery rule onto the PTCE. Confirm the credential you are actually booking.

Military-base Pearson sites are still test centers. They are not online proctoring.

If PTCB later restores remote PTCE delivery, the live CPhT page and Pearson PTCB page will say so. This Guide should be re-checked whenever those pages change. Use the current in-person plan as mixed PTCE practice time in Passy rather than waiting for a policy rumor.

PTCB eligibility does not create an online exception. Residence in the U.S. or territories is still an eligibility rule, not a webcam rule.

Work current-domain items in Passy while you compare center locations.

Pearson appointments are center dates, not webcam dates, on the current PTCE pages.

Come back to mixed PTCE items in Passy after the Pearson appointment is real.
