How Much Does the PTCB Exam Cost?

PTCB’s CPhT page states: the cost to apply for CPhT Certification and take the PTCE is $129. Keep preparation moving rather than pausing all study until the Pearson date exists.

What $129 does and does not include

The published $129 is the current charge to apply for CPhT certification and take the PTCE. It is not a Passy subscription. It is not Pearson lockers, travel, or a state Board of Pharmacy registration fee. Those are separate systems with separate prices.

CPhT renewal is a separate expense every two years. It is not part of the first-attempt $129. The CPhT page confirms the two-year cycle and is the place to check the current renewal rules.

Fees and forfeits around the $129

PTCB’s Guidebook lists a few charges and losses that sit around the application fee:

• Authorization extension: $20, nonrefundable, for another 90 days to schedule. You can extend twice, and you must ask before the current period ends.
• Rescheduling or canceling: no charge when you change a test-center appointment at least 24 hours ahead.
• No-show or expired authorization: you forfeit all fees and must reapply, which means paying the application fee again.
• Withdrawal: withdraw on or before the last day of the authorization period to qualify for a refund, minus an administrative fee. PTCB says refunds return to the original payment method in about three to four weeks.

Pay after you know you can sit

Eligibility comes first. PTCB eligibility requirements covers the education/training and 500-hour pathways. Paying an application you cannot complete wastes the fee.

How to apply and schedule is the account sequence. Pearson’s PTCB page currently describes a 90-day authorization window to schedule after approval. PTCB exam day is what that paid appointment looks like on site.

Payment is not the end of preparation, and reimbursement does not change the fee: if a school or employer pays you back, follow their receipt rules, but PTCB’s amount is still the amount on PTCB.
