RBT Exam Day: What to Expect at Pearson VUE

Check-in is a security process, not a study session

Pearson VUE check-in is an in-person identity and security process, not a study session. Keep last-day review to a short mixed set → the evening before, then stop. Cramming definitions in the parking lot spends the attention you need for identification, lockers, and the first items.

The RBT examination is delivered in English at authorized Pearson VUE testing centers and qualifying military locations. Current BACB and Pearson materials describe in-person delivery, not a take-from-home option. The online-testing guide answers that question directly.

Authorization to schedule comes from BACB after application approval. You cannot invent a walk-in seat. Confirm the appointment in the Pearson VUE system tied to your BACB authorization, and recheck the identification list Pearson publishes for BACB exams before you leave home.

What to bring, and what stays out of the room

Bring the identification Pearson VUE currently requires for BACB examinations. Names must match the authorization. Expired documents are a common reason a candidate is not seated. Expect a locker or similar storage for phones, bags, notes, and watches, following the center’s rules. Do not assume a smartwatch or second phone can stay in a pocket. Test-center staff, not a coworker’s memory of another exam, set the room rules that day.

You will not bring the RBT Handbook, a formula sheet, or a supervisor’s phone-a-friend. The examination is closed-book multiple choice.

Inside the 90-minute session

You will see 85 four-option items. Ten are unscored pilots mixed in. Seventy-five are scored. The clock is 90 minutes. The how-many-questions guide owns that structure.

The test is fixed-length. It will not stop early as a secret pass signal. Work the current stem. Flag only if the software allows and you have time to return. Leaving items blank is a poor plan.

Centers typically do not allow talking, photographing the screen, or reconstructing items afterward. Recalled items are not a study method and are not permitted.

Break policy is a Pearson/BACB administration rule, not a content strategy. If a break is allowed, the clock rules are the ones on the screen and in the current candidate instructions. Do not invent a “hidden extra 15 minutes.”

When you finish

You typically receive a pass or fail notice at the center. A fail notice includes missed tasks. Account confirmation from BACB follows on a delay described in the handbook, often about a week. The results guide interprets those documents.

A pass still leaves certification inactive until a supervisor adds you. Do not treat the printout as an active credential.

The day before, keep it small

Confirm the address, parking, identification, and appointment time. Recheck Pearson’s BACB page for any posted change. Sleep. Do not open a new 200-page packet.
