ServSafe Manager guideExam and certification
How Much Does ServSafe Manager Certification Cost?
An exam access code, an online proctor, and an online course are different ServSafe prices. None of them is a single national total.
Short answer
On October 3, 2026, ServSafe listed a manager exam access code at $38.99, an online-proctored exam at $99, an online course at $125, a course plus access code at $152.95, and a course plus online-proctored exam at $179. The $38.99 code still needs a registered proctor, and ServSafe says additional fees can apply. A failed attempt needs another code. These are product examples, not one universal price.
Price the product you are actually buying
ServSafe’s manager catalog, checked October 3, 2026, showed these amounts. A later visit can show a different price. This page does not add them into one “certification cost,” because a classroom, a textbook, a local fee, and a retake are separate decisions.
| Product code | What the page says is included | Listed price |
|---|---|---|
| SSONLINEX | Exam access code only. Requires a registered proctor. Additional fees can apply. | $38.99 |
| SSONLINEXREM | Exam with online proctoring. Not the course. Not refundable. | $99.00 |
| SSMCT7 | Online course only, described as English, Spanish, and French Canadian. | $125.00 |
| SSMCT7X | Online course and an exam access code. The code still needs a proctor. | $152.95 |
| SSMCT7XONLPROC | Online course and the online-proctored exam. | $179.00 |
The access-code page says the code is one use. If you do not pass, you buy another code and follow the retest policy. The retake guide is the attempt clock. It is not a discount.
Costs that are easy to leave out
- A classroom or a print answer sheet is not the $38.99 code.
- ProctorU can add $8 or $12 when you schedule the online exam inside 72 hours. That fee is on ServSafe’s online proctor instructions, not inside the $99 product price.
- A book is optional study material. The 9th edition is the edition ServSafe says already includes the current update. Buying an older edition can mean you also need the update sheet.
- Some states ask for a training record in addition to the exam. The access-code page gives Ohio as that kind of extra filing. It is not a fee this table can total for every state.
There is no “cheapest” path on this page. The lower code price is incomplete if you still have to pay a proctor. The $179 bundle is a course plus an online exam, which is more than an exam if your employer already provided training.
Passy does not sell the exam code and does not take the ServSafe payment. Practice on this site is a separate, optional study step.
